I know this is on the wrong site, but Union announced their new nickname today: Garnet Chargers. Ugh.
and there is a new logo. Opinions?
The name is awful and the logo is brutally bad. It makes our Red Hawks era seem much better by comparison. Hopefully they'll wise up and go back. As a former Guilderland Dutchman, I hope they don't go down the same path.
The golf outing is nearly two weeks away...I predict we'll have the roster by then ....HA HA
EDIT: Upon further review, none of the fall sports have updated rosters so it's not like we can feel singled out....my guess is they're waiting for the work study students to show up and refresh all of the pages for the department.

Like we need to fix their mascot problem? LOL! But what was wrong with just calling them the Garnet?
UC is very status conscious, very PC. Harvard, Cornell, Stanford, NYU and UChicago simply name their teams after a color. Instead, Little Brother is channeling the Power Rangers.

Shhhhhh!!!! We want to enjoy this a little bit longer. Besides, they can't fix it until they work through their stock of Garnet Charger gear.

If memory, from back when our place finally got it through their thick skulls that the chicken thing was a non starter, serves correctly (very late 90's???), it won't take that long. When that glorious enlightening finally did happen, all the apparel from that era could be found in reject bins at the bookstore marked at about $3 or less. At those prices it wasn't bad stuff at all. Assuming one of the people who wore the chicken outfit hasn't got the damned thing thing hanging in their closet, it may have brought $6 or $7.
Garnet Chargers real bad!!! Even Union Teamsters would have been better. The mascot could have been a likeness of Jimmy Hoffa and the guy (or gal) inside the thing could have done their dancing in the end zone instead of under it.
P.S. Younger people may be excused if they don't get any of this.

I really like the “U” design with the bolt on it. I think they should have gone with just “chargers” or “bolts” without the “garnet” but that’s minor stuff. I like the historical nod to GE, although I wonder how current residents of the city view GE.
My undergrad alma mater (not RPI) did a nickname/mascot change several years ago. It was controversial at the time, but it’s a distant memory now because the school put a lot of effort and funding into the design, marketing, and fonts for the athletic department to ensure a professional rollout and student buy-in. If Union does the same, I think it will be a successful transition.

that was me who wore it, and no I couldn’t take it home. I’lol have to check the archives to see if there’s any pictures, I know there’s a few in my yearbook. And I’m also in the camp that doesn’t mind the lightning bolt U, logo better than the name.
