Maybe for the second half of the season we could use "RPI 2024 - After 200 years, we're ready to get it right."
    Interesting idea.

I like it! and for the whole season, not just the second half.

That makes sense to me also.

          • I assume that RPI being founded in 1824 means that it opened in the fall of 1824. So the 200th academic year starts this fall. Thus "after 200 years" is not accurate for another year. How can we word it to be technically accurate in the upcoming season?

You mean that the school hasn’t been founded yet? Please correct.

Interesting. That is a prime piece of real estate -- 12+ acres in the heart of downtown and adjacent to other redevelopment (condos/apartments, retail) is already happening. Should fetch a a good dollar.
Based on what the article says, it sounds like RPI is working with the city as they target potential projects/developers. I have zero hope the funds garnered would be rolled into HFH, but who knows ! Ha ha

Wikipedia suggests that the school was established in late 1824, but did not start operating until 1825. I thought some of the longer-tenured participants on this chat board might have been around to see it ;-)

I agree, good to sell now and no chance funds used for HFH, at least directly. Would be a hard proposal to sell to other constituents the President has to engage.

Hartford suffers from the effects of 50s and 60s era transportation policies. Just like I-787 in Albany, Hartford is separated from one of its greatest potential assets, the riverfront, by I-91. Then, the downtown was separated from the North End by I-84. There has been a lot of development in the last 15 years in the downtown (in particular, thousands of apartments to re-establish a population base), but the North End was mostly abandoned parking lots, warehouses/processing plants and RPI. Since the new ballpark opened about 5 or 6 years ago there has been a shift in activity north of the highway. A couple of adjacent parcels have been developed and more are planned (some on hold because of legal action by the original developer that ran out of money but blames everyone else). The RPI property is on the far side of the ballpark but a logical candidate for the next round of development. It will probably take several years to find the right use and developer, but it's too significant a property to not get it right.

I guess we can use that even if nothing happened until 2025.

even more of a reason to use it, lmao.

btw, Dr. Jackson was president for 10% of RPI’s existence.

For as long as I can remember the school seal says 1824. Even if classes didn't actually start until January 1825, the first academic year (admittedly, I'm not sure they even recognized that modern concept 200 years ago) would still be 1824-1825. Thus 2023-2024 is the 200th academic year. That's our history, however fanciful, so let's run with it. You can be sure Harvard doesn't sweat the number of significant digits and proper zeroing of their "we are the oldest" measuring tools.

Edit: The comma is unnecessary. RPI 2023-2024: In our 200th year we are getting it right
