RPI 2023 Off-season: We March Fourth Into the Off-season

We haven't had a day over 90 degrees yet and I'm starting to think toward hockey season. I was looking at the roster and it suddenly occurred to me that I have no idea who the captains will be on this team. Usually after watching guys develop for 2 or 3 years I can guess most of the on-ice leadership. Between the pandemic, transfers and just the chaos of recent years I don't have that same feel. Any guesses?

I'd guess Jake Lee and Lauri Sertti as two of them

According to that interview, the incoming class announcement is coming soon. They are waiting for the NCAA to clear the players.

Probably good guesses, although if Jake is going to be an on-ice leader I hope he takes fewer penalties this season.

On a related note Coach Dave said that the pandemic response cost us "our next two captains." I'm assuming he meant Ferner and Dubinsky would have been captains in the seasons following the pandemic shutdown had they stayed in Troy.

You beat me to it about Lee. He takes too many ill-timed penalties to wear the "C"...... tough to rally the boys to kill off a penalty when you're the one frequently serving !

I have been feverishly loading the men’s and women’s schedules on my phone calendar. And one thing struck me: the men have the Blackout and the Big Red Freakout. The women? Just Senior Night. I get it. Attendance is low at the women’s games. But perhaps a couple theme games which added a bit of a carnival atmosphere might change that. At least for two games.

If they go .500 in the first 8 games I'm buying Lake Placid tickets. Maine and BC should be much improved. PC is always tough under Leaman. The North Country trip has long been a nightmare trip for any team. These days Union is the easiest opponent of the bunch yet those rivalry games are always tough regardless of which team appears to have the upper hand. Adding in the fact that 7 of the 8 games are on the road means the team will have to be much improved, particularly after last season's 2-13-0 road struggles, to come close to .500.

Definitely agree. Probably could have worded that part better. I'd probably expect 2-3 wins in those first 8 games. What I meant was, if they go .500 in those games, that would be an excellent start considering the difficulty.

I will not make any predictions for this team until I see a roster.
While I agree that playing competitive teams should get us ready for the ECAC, it also could kill any confidence we may have going into the season.
I really think that the first 8 games should have been a mix of those top teams and the kind of teams we played last year.
That said, I look forward to the start of the season as always.
