  • Was one Hutson maybe the dman Lane considered the much more accomplished of the brothers? They both look very good.

    • Nice win! Domination in the 3rd. Actually I thought they dominated for long stretches throughout.

Big difference with this year's level of compete in comparison to BU in the last few years. 3rd period fade and loss of a lead was common.

Yes, Lane is the higher level (?) for lack of a better term player. I’d have to think he’s the odds on favorite for HE Rookie of the Year.

I know that it may seem that way, but BU had the same average (0.875) as the overall average (0.874) for all teams from 2018-current when leading after 2 periods, with a 42-3-7 record under Coach O'Connell. However, in 5 of the wins the opponent did tie the game up in the 3rd before BU eventually won (11.9% of all wins). Overall teams leading after 2 were tied up 9.3% of the time and lost the lead 0.7% of the time before eventually winning, so BU under Coach O'Connell was slightly worse.

Under Coach Quinn BU went 73-6-6 (0.894) when leading after 2 periods with 5 of the games being tied up and 1 game in which BU lost the lead before eventually winning (combined 8.2% of all wins). Overall BU was slightly better at winning when leading after 2 under Quinn.

The bigger problem under Coaches O'Connell and Quinn was that BU had the lead after 2 periods in just 137 of 317 games (43.2%): 52 of 123 (42.3%) under O'Connell and 85 of 194 (43.8%) under Quinn. Furthermore, under Coach O'Connell BU came from behind just 9 times, with 4 wins and 5 ties and when tied after 2 BU went 12-10-3. Under Coach Quinn BU came from behind 21 times, winning 14 and tying 7 and when tied after 2 BU went 20-9-7.

For comparison Minnesota State went 106-3-1 (0.968) when leading after 2 periods from 2018-22. Opponents tied just 5 games (4.7% of all wins) before Minnesota State eventually won. Furthermore, Minnesota State lead in 110 of 152 games (72.4%) after 2 periods. When trailing they came back to win 7 and tie 2, while when tied after 2 they went 10-7-2.

I do agree that Coach O'Connell wasn't able to make in-game adjustments and the team usually ran out of energy in the third period under him.

              • Quick thoughts on the Notre Dame game:

                - They weren't sharp, didn't play well for long stretches, but found a way to win. The sign of a good team
                - The ND goalie. Woof. He made two "Already half in the nog" mistakes
                - The Irish are BIG. Nice to see skill and speed beat big
                - Quality crowd (all in the middle sections). I saw a lot of Notre Dame gear. Let's keep scheduling this game. (Meaning a game the day before Thanksgiving against a quality opponent.)

                • I was impressed with the crowd. Not only was it the Wednesday before Thanksgiving but it was at 5:00pm. And people made it despite the Green Line train vs. Maserati fiasco at the BU Bridge.

                  • BC did very well on recruiting for next years class. Looks like this group has played well. Should be an interesting game.

                    • Is BC losing that many kids after this season?? Looks like we’re playing next year’s BC team.

                      • Well, that was ugly. And disappointing.

Talk about a lack of effort.

                        • I mean, half the guys who played were reserves who don't normally play. 2 of the 7 suited D were regulars.

                          • I get it’s an exhibition but playing a team full of many future opponents and NHLers I like to see them put their best team out there to see how they match up and make a statement. I didn’t see many regular forwards sitting though. The BU future goalie tough game that wasn’t encouraging.

                            • I didn't watch any of the game so I can't really give insight into the product. That said, this U18 team has beaten almost all the NCAA teams it has faced (I think they won their first 8 or 11 or something like that), and despite the pain it causes to say so given all the BC recruits, has to be considered one of the top U18 teams in a long time. It sounds like some shaky goaltending got is into a hole that we just couldn't get all the way out of, despite a strong push.

If any of the issues bleed into the UNH series then perhas that will be a cause for concern, but otherwise, I am not going to dwell.
