  • USCHO's PWR is more accurate, I always believed. BTW Harvard is # 1
It all starts with the goaltending.

    • Shabby, I looked and you’re right about USCHO’s PWR…

      https://www.uscho.com/rankings/pairw...kings/d-i-men/

      Here is CHN’s PWR…

      https://www.collegehockeynews.com/ratings/pairwise/

The next logical question is… how can they be so different? I realize that it is relatively early in the season (especially for the Ivies) and the ‘mood swings’ will become less-and-less as the season progresses, but… USCHO and CHN are using computers to determine the same thing… NCAA’s PWR, whose formula is known to both media sites. Their major differences, even at this point in the season, don’t make sense to me.

      • Don suffered a concussion as a result of getting hit by the puck a week ago Saturday. He was with the team this weekend.
It was great to see Simon LaBelle (sp?) get his first collegiate goal last night! Keep it going, ‘gate!!
Glad you will be representing us in the North Country next weekend, Iowa!! Safe travels.

        • Hate to be picky but we didn’t really get a split this weekend. Only got 2 points against Princeton.

          • I saw that.
It all starts with the goaltending.

            • Well...as many have said: "People have a right to their own opinions, but not a right to their own set of facts"...Yours truly, along with several others, have presented hard, cold facts/metrics, etc. regarding the last 15 years of our MIH program...I have plenty more at my disposal and observations from a number of individuals (who shall, as always, go nameless) that the program is in dire need of fresh blood, young enthusiasm and real recruiting reach to elevate us from consistent mediocrity. If I - or others - opt to look at the current situation as "the glass being half full" at least give us our due...we have been right ON THE FACTS...I support the program (although my SPC contributions are tangibly down) and the great kids who do their best for men's hockey. Colgate has had good support from President Casey and the Board...the $38M rink project was a real success in its design and functionality...other schools (the Ivies) blew off the 2020-21 season and credit should accrue to our President, the current AD and others...at different times St. Lawrence, RPI and Union have dealt with administrative incompetence and, at best, lukewarm MIH support (SLU seems to be re-emerging)...so both our program and the league in general find themselves in a static or declining position...Brown, Yale and Princeton have all suffered (Cornell and Harvard are always the exception here)...Dartmouth, too, has been mediocre at best, but with the arrival of Reid Cashman (Pecknold's first real star and a Pecknold acolyte) I would opine that their program will be in the ascent in a year or two...The Bottom Line here: both the ECAC in general and Colgate Hockey specifically need to "up their games", delve into the 21 century, and make a conscious effort to attract top tier talent and lift the reputation of our league. I'd love to look at the glass being "half full"...but I'll wait for something concrete while being, as usual, a little ornery and impatient...I think I've paid my dues...

              • ECAC Hockey has changed its playoff format starting this season:
                https://ecachockey.com/news/2022/11/...structure.aspx

Now it's single elimination in the 1st round, best of 3 in the quarterfinals, then back to single elimination for the final 4. What are your thoughts on this? I personally don't like it. It seems weird to go 1 game to best of 3 then back to 1 game. If this was in effect in 2008 or 2011 we would have been 1-and-done, with no upsets of Clarkson, RPI, or Union.

                • Rainman, I saw that, too, and agree with you… I don’t like it either.
Why did they do it? Usually one can follow the money trail. Are the administrators simply trying to reduce expenses? Programs that sell-out their arenas (or have fans that travel well) usually are trying to add games, post-season, not reduce the number of them.
I don’t know about ‘08 and ‘11, but, in general, I would think a longer series would favor the home teams (cream will generally rise to the top given time). To me, it sounds like this first-round format will favor the possibility of more upsets.
Bringing that thought home, Colgate is more of a 5-8 team lately than a 9-12 (or a 1-4 bye team) for the first round.

                  • Instead of finding ways to improve the overall competitiveness of the league (maybe they're trying, but I am skeptical) ECAC Hockey comes up with this brilliant idea...agree with the above...stupid and frankly not necessary...

                    • Sure as hell makes that first round game more intense. All said...not sure if I like it or not.
It all starts with the goaltending.

                      • It will be beneficial to the 1st round winners as they’ll only have to play 1 game and not 2 or 3.

                        • Carter Gylander is in goal again for ‘Gate.
Ethan Haider in goal for Clarkson.

Clarkson 9, Colgate 2, SOG after one.
Colgate 0, Clarkson 0, score after one.

Clarkson successfully killed a penalty early in the second, then Alex Campbell scored a Golden Knight goal late in the period.

Clarkson 19, Colgate 7, SOG after two.
(SOG numbers have been suspect all night).
Clarkson 1, Colgate 0, score after two.

Clarkson’s Campbell with a PPG five minutes into the third.
Colgate has pinged it off the pipes and Clarkson once (seconds before their first goal). Now in the third, Colgate had an open net and shot wide. ‘Gate is finally playing with a sense of urgency after Clarkson’s second goal. And just after I typed that, Clarkson pinged it off the pipe and seconds later scored again.

SHG and Hat Trick for Clarkson’s Campbell.

Andrew Takacs replaced Carter Gylander with five minutes left, down 4-0. Colgate penalty with three minutes left. Clarkson pinged it again.

Clarkson 27, Colgate 12, SOG final.
Clarkson 4, Colgate 0, score final.

                          • This predictable outcome epitomizes Colgate’s losing program in one, big, fat nutshell.

                              • Again, what's the definition of insanity? 20 goals in 11 games? The sane person would have to at least consider the question: is the system under which these kids play even appropriate for collective talent? Time for our overrated AD to step up and do her job as well...this program lacks a pulse...
