From me, "I see 57 programs listed. What was the last year that NCAA had 57 men's D-1 ice hockey programs? If it is more current than that, what programs are not included (and why)? More specifically, what year does it supposedly represent? And what exactly goes into those numbers? Thanks."

From Josh, "It’s all the schools that have the records for expenses for the Men’s hockey program available and includes all expenditures for the program. Salaries, rink maintenance, travel, etc….
GopherPuckLive periodically puts together an article to compare where Minnesota is compared to the rest of college hockey. Here is an article from 2018 as an example with additional info."

While I still question a lot about the specifics of this ranking, it probably does fairly accurately show the basic differences between the expenditures of the Big Ten (and other) conference programs and those of the ECAC Hockey conference.

Many top schools have tens of thousands of students. Interesting that No. 23, 25, 27 are D-III. Would think Union would be the same…Achilles is outdated. Qpac…their results every year speak for themselves.

Tomorrow marks the one-week anniversary of the national championship game.
We all know that October 1 and the start of the 2023-24 season is a long way off.
So, let's try to keep this Colgate thread alive (until Shabby starts the new one), at least on a weekly basis, during the off-season.

So, my first question is, to the thread's faithful, what is your favorite memory (or your least favorite) of the past season?

I will start...

Quinnipiac University won the NCAA Division-1 Men's Ice Hockey National Championship game in Tampa, Fla.
During the 2022-23 season, only one team (amongst all 62 NCAA D-1 MIH programs) won its season series against Quinnipiac. Only one.

Who was that team?

Well, it was Colgate University of Hamilton, N.Y.

And I was at two of those three games. Both wins by Colgate... in Hamilton and in Lake Placid.

Of course, I also saw Quinnipiac defeat both Michigan and Minnesota in Tampa.

Your turn... fave memory (or least fave memory) of the past season?

My least favorites were the two losses to Niagara, had us going in the wrong direction after a decent start. Favorites had to be the wins in Lake Placid !

Without question my best memory was beating Harvard in Lake Placid. There were a lot of Colgate people there and they were vocal. 33 years between ECAC championships and I was lucky enough to see them both in person.

Honorable mention might be the home Cornell game. At 3-0 in the 1st period it looked like Cornell was going to run us out of our own building. But we came back and took the lead before getting the shootout win.

I was at all 3 games that Quinnipiac and Colgate played. Tip of the cap to the Raiders for being the only team to have our number this year.

I'm a Bobcats fan, but I was rooting for Colgate to beat Harvard in Lake Placid. One of my favorite memories of the 22-23 season was sitting behind the Raiders bench in the ECAC Championship Game and seeing Don Vaughan's reaction after beating Harvard to win the Whitelaw Cup. If QU couldn't win it, I'm glad it was Coach Vaughan and Colgate.

Breaking news...The IIHF Womens World Championships April 4-14 2024 will be played in Utica NY next spring. Unreal, the best women players in the world. You'll be coming to Utica, Tom !

Shabby, the Frozen Four will be in Saint Paul, Minn., April 11-13, so I need to be there watching the Colgate men… but the previous weekend could be fun in Utica, where I worked for GE, 1980-85.

My favorite memory is watching us defeat Harvard and win the Whitelaw Cup for the first time in 33 years! (I was in Boston for the 1st and regret not being in LP for the second!) Another favorite is being part of the crowd welcoming the victors home from LP and Don giving me a huge hug and thanking me for sticking by the program through thick and thin. Go 'gate!!

Barb, people sometimes forget that it’s the simple gestures that mean the most. The huge hug that you received from Don Vaughan returning from Lake Placid, the Colgate jersey that I received from Max Elberty five years ago, etc. Those are the memories that we cherish personally.

No contest here, my favorite memory of the 2022-23 season is winning the Whitelaw Cup. I regret not making the trip to Lake Placid because I was contemplating attending 90s Con in Hartford because my childhood crush, Amanda Bynes, was scheduled to make an appearance. (And she didn't.)
