WOW!
Thank you Mark and damn what a run!
Like I said earlier this team plays to their opponent!! We have had many shots at the Whitelaw recently and not capitalized but this is awesome. Congrats to Coach Vaughn and the team and a massive shout out to Gylander and Ross Mitton who has been a stud for us all year. I am pumped for the NCAA trip.

Great team effort and perfect situational game planning from the coaches. Nobody can say Carter G didn't prove his stripes this weekend. Only thing that sucked was we didn't get to hear from Don
after the game due to the failure of the mic used by the long term Q color guy. May have been some pay back there. IceCat?Last edited by Oldtimer; 03-18-2023, 10:27 PM.

Hey, Magoo, you were so right in yesterday's post: "And after 2 scoreless games I think the Youngs will get back on the scoresheet tomorrow."
Congrats to the Raiders. They've broken their ECAC Tournament curse after three+ decades. So proud of all the team.
As a wise-man said (or something like this), "the Raiders will be packing their bags for the road trip next weekend." Enjoy the next 24 hours... then get down to work preparing for the NCAAs.

It's difficult to describe my feelings as my beloved Colgate men's hockey team won it's second Whitelaw Cup! I am over-the-moon for Donnie and the team and coaches! I was in Boston in 1990 and desperately wish I was in Lake Placid to celebrate this amazing accomplishment. Most of the posters on this thread know Colgate hockey from the X's and O's but I only know it from my heart - and my heart is overflowing with pride tonight! Congratulations, guys!!!! Go 'gate!!

Congrats to the Raiders on a fantastic achievement beating two excellent teams in LP. We love sports in large part because nothing is handed to anyone before the games begin.
Four ECAC teams in the tourney to the chagrin of the rest of the fandom—let’s see who can make noise!

Sweet, sweet revenge for the OT loss back on January 27.
Sweet, sweet revenge for the 2015 ECAC Championship loss.
I strongly considered making the trip up to Lake Placid but hesitated, then decided earlier this week not to go because of the weather forecast and the uncertainty of whether we would be playing 1 or 2 games. Man did I make a HUGE mistake.
But on the other hand, I’m elated that we won our first ECAC Championship since 1990! And it’s the first for Don Vaughan in his *THIRTY* year tenure as head coach! I loved seeing Artaud Vachon hand the Whitelaw Cup to Coach Vaughan after skating with it, similar to how NHL players skate with the Stanley Cup.

Back at the Adirondack Trail Lodge in Upper Jay, N.Y., with traveling partner Clarkson Doug and it’s nearly impossible to put into words my feelings tonight. But, they are very much like CU13’s. My late brother Bill graduated from Colgate in 1959, the year I was born. My brother Al graduated in ‘68 and he was a goalie (though never played at the varsity level). Since then, I have been a fan of Colgate men’s ice hockey. In 1980-85, right out of Buffalo State College, I worked in Utica and would go to games at Starr Rink (watching Jeff Cooper in goal). Not a season ticket holder, but I loved going to the games. Work took me to Wisconsin, 1985-89, where I was an Illinois-Chicago regular and then to Iowa, 1989-2017, where I was a Nebraska-Omaha season ticket holder (Colgate came out and won the Maverick Stampede). Colgate’s appearance in the national championship game in Detroit in 1990 was a wake-up call for me and, since 1993, I have basically gone to every Frozen Four. Since leaving the hospital and then hospice in early 2017, retiring and moving back East (to Owego, N.Y.), I have been a faithful season ticket holder, going to all Colgate’s home games and most of their away games. From October through mid-April each year, following Colgate and college hockey is how I spend my ‘bonus days’ on Earth. I also go to the ECAC tournament and an NCAA Regional each year, in addition to the Frozen Four. This weekend in Lake Placid was absolutely an incredible experience. I am also ‘over the moon’ and so excited for Don Vaughan, the student-athletes and the whole team, the University (and the community) and all its supporters (including everyone on here). Go ‘Gate!Last edited by iowabasedtraveler; 03-19-2023, 12:31 AM.

It is looking like #15 Colgate vs. #3 Michigan in Allentown, Penna., according to the prognosticators on both CHN and USCHO. #8 Penn State and #10 Michigan Tech might meet in the other opening game there. The Selection Show is Sunday at 6:30 p.m.Last edited by iowabasedtraveler; 03-19-2023, 12:55 AM.

Wow. We beat two excellent hockey teams these past two nights. Congratulations to the team (and coaching staff) bringing their very best these last two weeks. I have to admit that when I saw them get beat by Yale at Ignalls about a month ago, I never saw this coming.
Iowa, with all of your dedication to the program, I feel almost as happy for you. So glad you were there to see it live.

Just got home from Placid and I echo everyone’s emotions. So happy for Don who we all know has had a tough time in the tournament. And the players played their hearts out. The first period had to be the best period of hockey we’ve played all year. We just have had a hard time doing it for 60 minutes.
Here’s one for you Iowa (and everyone else). I was standing next to someone tonight who I thought was the father of a Colgate player. We were talking throughout the game but I didn’t know who he was. After the game was over I asked him if he was a player’s parent. He said he wasn’t but that he played on the 1990 team. He was none other than Karl Clauss, the captain of the only other Colgate team to win the ECAC championship.
Don got King Kong off his back tonight by finally winning an ECAC championship. Now let’s see if he can win his first NCAA game. If his team can play 3 periods like the first period tonight he has a shot.
Congratulations to Don and his team on a well-deserved ECAC championship and best of luck in the NCAAs!!
