This is a minor bonus, but if we win it would go a long way to keeping Cornell out of the ncaa

Wish I had an explanation for why we play up to good talent and down to lesser talented teams ? I hope the trend continues tonight.
It all starts with the goaltending.

Q has been snake bitten in LP, but so are we; trying for our first trophy since 1990. Hope to rewrite the record books against the Crimson. One word to make that happen: Laferriere. Our offense has saved us a lot this season. It was the opposite tonight. We also did not give up the first goal; that was key
Can you Imagine…COLGATE…having Men’s AND Women’s ECAC Hockey Champions? Make it happen, Raiders, and get that AQ!
“Sounded like the fans of the other two team were rooting for us” LOL…..Hmm I wonder why they wanted to see you win? Can you think of a reason teacher Bill? Do you need to be educated? Biggest win in your program history. Enjoy it for 24 hours…..you make it easy to root for Harvard and see them really send you packing till next year…..you’re not in the NCAA tournament…..AGAINLast edited by ICECAT1811; 03-18-2023, 10:58 AM.

I had a great visit with Ithaca friends Cornell Joe and Cornell Nancy before their game last night. Joe had some good observations, as usual…
Only one team came to Lake Placid as a caged animal, knowing they needed to win each game to get another chance at freedom. True.
Joe was concerned about Harvard as he said they swept Big Red in the regular season. His concern proved valid.
And lastly, he said how last year, and then last night, were such good experiences for the younger ‘Gate student-athletes, showing them what competing at that level is like… and how rewarding it can be. True again.Last edited by iowabasedtraveler; 03-18-2023, 12:01 PM.

And while I’m sure you are up to speed on your program, please don’t lecture us on ours. Sure, we have been underwhelming for the last decade or so (which posters on our page know I have certainly pointed out over the years). And undoubtedly, last night was a fantastic win over a quality team. But it was certainly not the biggest win in program history.

Hey, ICECAT1811,
Looking at this season's pretty even ecords between the four Lake Placid teams reveals four great teams are fighting it out on the ice for the Whitelaw Cup.
On 02-11 you wrote, [Quinnipiac, on Jan 21] "Losing to Colgate after leading 2-0 is the biggest upset in College hockey this year."
And today you write, [Colgate win versus Quinnipiac at Lake Placid on March 17] "Biggest win in your program history. Enjoy it for 24 hours…." [we have been!! Sorry you haven't.]
Appreciate the history lesson. What a year the Colgate scholar-athletes are having -- biggest upset of the year then biggest win in [their] history.
Let's all root for another exciting hockey game today. Who could ask for more?

ICECAT1811...when you engage in ignorant and classless remarks I suggest you stay on your own thread...and, yes, the vast majority of Q-Pac posters are knowledgeable and fair hockey fans...I will be rooting for ALL ECAC teams in the NCAA Tourney...the league does need some tourney success...

Enough ice time for IceCat.
Let’s talk about us. After a season of ups and downs, we have made it to the ECAC Championship Game for the first time in almost a decade. Is it finally our year? Harvard is obviously a formidable opponent, but what more can you ask for than a chance to play one game for a title.
To riff on Sshsblak’s byline, I think it all hinges on Gylander. I thought he was shaky down the stretch in the regular season; it seemed like he gave up a soft goal each game. But last night he seemed completely dialed in. That was the best and most confident I recall him playing. He is going to need to recapture that form tonight.
As for offense, the last few games we’ve gotten production from our secondary and tertiary options. This helps a ton as it is tough to rely on the Young line for magic (even if they often provide it). Defensively, we will have to contend with Harvard’s wealth of talent.
It’s not going to be easy, but it can be done. We’ve already beaten them once this year. Go ‘gate!

Carter Gylander and Mitchell Gibson led Colgate and Harvard, respectively, for tonight’s pre-game warm-up. Tonight’s pre-game reception was full and, for me personally, it was great fun to have former ‘Gate goalie Jeff Cooper and his wife sit with Clarkson Doug and me. Very interesting convo.
Harvard penalty for interference.
Colgate PP goal by Colton Young (from Ethan Manderville and Alex Young).
Alex Young unassisted goal at even strength.
Colgate penalty for hooking. Killed.
Colgate penalty for interference. Killed.
Colgate 12, Harvard 11, SOG after one.
Colgate 2, Harvard 0, score after one.
Henry Thrun scored for Harvard at even strength as Gylander appeared to be screened.
And Levi Glasman scored minutes later (from Anderson and LaBelle). Harvard coach Donato challenged for a major penalty. Unsuccessful challenge.
Harvard 21, Colgate 18, SOG after two.
Colgate 3, Harvard 1, score after two.
Colgate penalty for slashing. Killed.
Harvard pinged it off the pipe with nine minutes to go.
Colgate penalty for hooking with 8:44 to go. And Harvard scored.
2:16 to go. 3-2. Time Out Colgate. Harvard goalie pulled.
Colgate wins!!
Harvard 30, Colgate 19, SOG final.
Colgate 3, Harvard 2, final.Last edited by iowabasedtraveler; 03-18-2023, 11:39 PM.

Congrats on your ECAC title! Well earned. Very happy for your program. I remember visiting your old rink in 2006, I think it was, when we faced off in the playoffs and being treated so well by Colgate fans. Good luck in the tournament.
Please just do what the rest of us do and ignore Icecat.

I've depleted all of my "unused" prayers...some of us, including myself, have been critical of DV over the past five years or so, but we never made it a personal thing...I am happy for our kids, our program, etc. but, truth be told, happiest for DV...he's a good man and he deserves this accomplishment very much...GO GATE...
