  • With the 200x85 rink in Placid now, I wonder which team, if any, benefits the most from this. We have a fast team but I would guess Q-Pac is faster, thus Colgate benefits more ?
It all starts with the goaltending.

Truly impressive for a kid to carry that kind of academic workload and play D1 hockey... These stories have always been why I love ECAC hockey. Good luck to The Raiders today ! I'll be pulling for the upset !

              • I am at the Colgate pre-game reception. The improvements made to the entire facility (for the World University Games) are impressive. Lake Placid is a Winter Wonderland and its usual charming self, although, sadly, it is 39-degrees and misting outside. Dang!

Several players’ parents and Colgate fans in attendance.

                • Carter Gylander and Yaniv Perets led their teams for today’s pre-game warm-up at the newly renovated Herb Brooks 1980 Rink in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Colgate penalty for boarding. Almost had a shortie. Killed.

Quinnipiac penalty for hooking. Puck in behind Perets. Stayed out. But then pile-on in the crease. Play is under review. No goal. And killed.

Beautiful goal by Daniel Panetta (from Levi Glasman). One-on-one vs. Perets.

Quinnipiac 13, Colgate 6, SOG after one.
Colgate 1, Quinnipiac 0, score after one.

Colgate is playing up to Quinnipiac’s level. Carter Gylander is playing very well (again).

Colgate penalty for goalie interference. Killed.

Quinnipiac penalty for two minutes. Under review for five minutes. It’s five minutes for Skyler B. (Kneeing) and game misconduct. Killed.

Colgate penalty to Arnaud V. (again).

Quinnipiac 23, Colgate 15, SOG after two.
Colgate 1, Quinnipiac 0, score after two.

Quinnipiac has Colgate right where they want us… we have a one-goal lead entering the third period. And we haven’t even taken our ‘too many men on the ice’ penalty yet.

Colgate penalty for elbowing. Quinnipiac with PPG.

Quinnipiac 30, Colgate 29, SOG after regulation.
Colgate 1, Quinnipiac 1, score after regulation.

                  Colgate penalty for elbowing. Killed.

                  Quinnipiac penalty for high-sticking. Killed.

                  Colgate 43, Quinnipiac 40, SOG after OT-1.
                  Colgate 1, Quinnipiac 1, score after OT-1.

We played aggressively. We played well. And Carter and Yaniv and having a great duel in nets.

                  Quinnipiac penalty for tripping. Killed.

                  Colgate wins!! Ross Mitton!!

Colgate 46, Quinnipiac 42, SOG final.
Colgate 2, Quinnipiac 1, score final.

I’m a Cornell grad, but Colgate dad and have seen a lot of the Raiders this year. Congrats to Colgate on a great performance. I agree this was not a fluke, as I thought overall Colgate had the edge in play and was not the least bit intimidated. They’ll be a worthy opponent against whoever emerges in the 2nd game.

                            • I take back what I said about Gylander. He was immense tonight especially in the second period. Some of his saves were otherworldly. You guys deserved the win tonight. Hoping to see you tomorrow night in the finals.
