Thanks, PondSkater.
Magoo, I agree. 883, which is less than half-capacity of the Class of 1965 Arena, is about where I would peg us for most games. The Clarkson game was more than half-full because they travel well.

Carter Gylander led Colgate out into the ice tonight for the pre-game warm-up.
Mikey Roberts did the same for Dartmouth, but freshman Cooper Black is in goal.
Pep band and lots of students are present tonight.
Dartmouth’s McDonald scored first with an apparently deflected shot.
Seconds later, ‘Gate’s Ben Raymond (from Ryan McGuire) tied it up with a beauty.
Good ‘Gate effort results in second goal, by Simon LaBelle (from Tommy Bergsland).
Colgate penalty for cross-checking (drew DV’s ire). Killed.
Few make kick-saves like Carter Gylander.
Colgate 8, Dartmouth 6, SOG after one.
Colgate 2, Dartmouth 1, score after one.
P.S. - Clarkson women upset Yale in New Haven today. Colgate women up 1-0 over Quinnipiac after one.
Matching unsportsmanlike conduct penalties to open the second period. 90 seconds later, chippiness continues. Killed.
Colgate penalty for slashing.
One absolutely beautiful (and incredibly skilled) short-handed goal by Colton Young.
Halfway through the game, Dartmouth’s Joey Musa realizes that his season could be over soon and is getting really chippy.
Dartmouth penalty (under review for 2 or 5). And it’s a five-minute penalty (face-mask) and game-misconduct for Alex Krause. Killed.
Three minutes left in the second period, with a 3-1 lead, and we are already taking our foot off the gas. Could be a new record.
Colgate 17, Dartmouth 10, SOG after two.
Colgate 3, Dartmouth 1, score after two.
P.S. - From the Professor… Colgate women 4, Quinnipiac 0, score after two.
This is not sustainable (and not fair to our goalie). 17-16 SOG.
Dartmouth now playing like North Dakota.
Two players in their box (and one under review).
2 minute penalty. 5 minute penalty for kneeing and game misconduct (on Joey Musa).
Sadly, Reid Cashman is no Bob Gaudet.
Colgate PPG a snipe from Matt Verboon.
Another blast. Another PPG. This time by Alex DiPaolo.
Colgate penalty for interference (under video review).
Dartmouth goal. 19-19 SOG. 5-2 score. 8.5 minutes to go in regulation.
Another Dartmouth goal on the PP. 5-3.
Dartmouth goalie pulled with 3 minutes left in regulation.
Dartmouth 24, Colgate 20, final SOG.
Colgate 5, Dartmouth 3, final score.
P.S. - Apparently Colgate women won 5-1 and will play Clarkson tomorrow for the ECAC title.Last edited by iowabasedtraveler; 03-03-2023, 08:43 PM.

For the neutral fan, this was almost everything you could ask for in a hockey game. For us though, it was nerve-wracking. Give credit to Colgate - when Dartmouth got into penalty trouble in the 3rd, we took advantage of it. But also give credit to Dartmouth - they didn’t quit. Playoff games are never easy and they’re NEVER over until the clock reads all zeros in the 3rd or an OT goal is scored. But our bad habit of giving up extra-attacker goals continues…
The following 3 things are certain in life. Death, taxes, and Colgate playing St. Lawrence in the ECAC playoffs. Onto Appleton. Maybe we can break that curse?Colgate '09

90-minute drive became 135-minute drive home due to snow and freezing rain, but just more time to think about tonight’s game…
If Dartmouth hadn’t imploded with stupid penalties, I am not sure which team would have been heading out on the links tomorrow. We are just bound and determined to try to waste leads in the third period.
As for their penalties, two separate game misconducts in one game, I am not sure that those were just two players going rogue after being frustrated by being on a 12th place team at the end of the season in a 12-team conference. I think it just might be Reid’s style of play(er). They are becoming the North Dakota of the ECAC, in my opinion.
Fortunately, we weren’t intimidated by them and their tactics. Nor were the referees.
Finally, I think we can beat Saint Lawrence in three games. But, if we make it to Lake Placid, I don’t see us going to the championship game (no matter who we play in the first game). We obviously have some truly skilled individuals, but we just don’t have the total team package that is necessary at that level.Last edited by iowabasedtraveler; 03-04-2023, 01:52 AM.

That was as unimpressive a game as I would expect for both teams. It’s clear now why we gave away home ice as the 4th seed. Gylander can have his stellar moments but is usually a sieve and gives up the first goal - again. Given Dartmouth’s penalties, we still only had 15 shots on net to their 21, not including goals scored. They played some good defense. SLUs goalie will give us fits. Not sure why we were the only Friday team; extra day of rest can’t hurt.C O L G A T E

I thought we had a strong first period last night. We were skating well and playing physical. But as it’s been for the past month or so we don’t play a 60 minute game. I agree with Iowa and Greencoat that we don’t seem to have the killer instinct to put teams away when we have the lead late in a game.
Next weekend is a tossup, even if we would have been home.

So, it will be best-of-three Quarterfinals next weekend, featuring...
#10 Yale at #1 Quinnipiac,
#9 Princeton at #2 Harvard,
#6 Clarkson at #3 Cornell, and
#5 Colgate at #4 Saint Lawrence.
The coaches of the four losing teams in the one-and-done first-round who will be complaining the most about the new ECAC Hockey tourney format will be...
#7 RPI, #8 Union, #11 Brown and #12 Dartmouth.
And I personally hope that they complain loud-and-clear to the powers that be within ECAC Hockey.
Finally, my Facebook post tonight...
"Serendipity. Several times since I have been back East, it has crept into my life. Last night, after the Dartmouth at Colgate college hockey game, I was bemoaning the fact that the current Dartmouth team (with its relatively new coach) is not playing up to the high standards of its previous long-time coach, Bob Gaudet. Tonight, I went to Geneva, N.Y. (after the winter weather advisories of last night scrapped any thoughts of going to New Oxford, Penna., or Ogdensburg, N.Y., today) for a Division-3 college hockey game. And who was there? Yup... former Dartmouth coach Bob Gaudet. He was watching the Babson Beavers, for whom his son Jim Gaudet is an assistant coach. And who is one of Bob Gaudet's fave players at Dartmouth? Yup... Cam Strong, son of former sprint car racer Doug Strong (a.k.a. Dartmouth Doug), who just happens to be part of my Frozen Foursome with Clarkson Doug and Alaska Mike. Serendipity indeed."
And, for the record, after visiting with him tonight, Bob Gaudet has nothing but kind words for, and good memories of, "Donnie Vaughan."
