      • Disappointing game tonight. Definitely a bad 1st period - very sloppy with the puck, poor passing. I thought that it wasn’t until after we got the 3rd goal that we started playing our game. Came close to tying it a couple of times late in the 3rd but give RPI credit - they deserved to win.

        • Magoo, totally agree with you about some of our chances in the third. A couple of years ago, we would try ‘trick’ plays, they would fail, and I would think, ‘guys, you’re not that talented… just stick to the basics.’ This year, more than any other year since I have been back East, we are trying ‘trick’ plays and they’ve been working. Tic-Tac-Toe. Once in the third, when we really needed it to tie up the game, we executed it to perfection (or so I thought), but it didn’t go in. And I am still not exactly sure why. We had some chances but we weren’t able to complete them.

The team, on the whole, was sluggish from the start. And when we did wake up, it was too little too late.

Union will be mad as hornets ‘morrow at home after being thrashed by Cornell tonight. Hopefully our coaching staff can rattle some cages between now and then.

Last thought for tonight… I don’t know why, but I just like RPI fans (and the RPI rink) so much better than Union fans (and their rink). During the game, RPI Bob texted me out of the blue and we met between the second and third periods. He and his wife always come to the RPI at Colgate game and sit in my row. Then, back at my seat, I was surrounded by RPI season ticket holders. On my left, a couple who come up from Huntington Station, Long Island, for RPI home games. On my right, a couple who come up from the Catskills, 70 minutes away. Really good fans who enjoy talking knowledgeably about college hockey. Tomorrow I dread heading to Messa where they feel if you ain’t Dutch, you ain’t much.

          ’Night, Magoo!!

          • Night Iowa. See you tomorrow no doubt. I have a feeling we’ll play a lot better at Union.

            • Did Arnaud Vachon play tonight?
Laying in bed, thinking about it, I don’t remember seeing him on the ice.

              • We remain inconsistent and, as usual, Cornell is improving on a week-to-week basis...frankly, three points tonight is quite important...

No he didn’t. Don’t know why.

                  • Ughhh, a 3rd period lead turned regulation loss.

Also our PK last night was 33%.

We need to forget about that and focus on today’s game. Side note - why are we playing a 4 PM game when the other ECAC matchups are at 7 PM?

                    • Third period meltdown, our defenseman just stood there and let those three goals happen. Dan Fridgen, RPI color guy announcer, and Colgate All American had an interesting assessment.
In the first period Belpedio had his stick on top of an RPI players stick pushing down, it was a good play. He got called for "hooking" by the trailing official whereas the ref right by the play called nothing. RPI tied the game twenty one seconds later. An RPI player did the same thing in the third with no penalty called. Fridgen commented that "one of the problems in the ECAC is that there is "no consistency in the officiating and that is all we want, call it a penalty or don't call it a penalty, but call it one way or another, but the same for BOTH teams".

I'm wondering if the players don't know what's going to be called and this makes them complacent, RPI scored on two of three powerplays and basically is why they won the game.
Time after time (even Reid Irwin who I think is our best dman) just backed in and allowed RPI to just pound away at Gylander
I'm not blaming the refs for the loss but I've never seen such "soft" play, if we play like that against Cornell's thugs they'll blow us out of the building !

There's my coffee rant for the day, hopefully we don't have another third period like that tonight and a different outcome.

                      • Magoo… Zach Lamont said he was a scratch last night, apparently injured from the hit he took in Hamilton last weekend. If I remember right, I think he was favoring one leg when he went to the dressing room last weekend.

                        • OK. Thanks Iowa.

                          Shabby,
Agree 100% with Fridgen. Too many ticky-tack hooking penalties are being called at all levels - NHL and on down. Also agree with you on the power play. It’s the best it’s looked in a while.

                          • In the NHL if you even touch a guys gloves with your stick it's a penalty, ffs lifting a guys stick is a hook !!

RPI fan here. I think you’re referring to this Watson save at 4-3, during a stage where Colgate was all over RPI. That goes in and I think the result may have been different. https://twitter.com/rpi_hockey/statu...IBgqxBLirie7NQ

From my perspective, I thought it was an entertaining game, especially for a goal-starved RPI offense. I agree with comments about officiating. Looked like referees struggled with consistency in penalty calls, even from my seat in the stands.
