Props to Gylander on his standing up to the shots in the third period. Quite a display of netminding all night with 36 (or 34?) saves. Great to see us take the measure of the Cantabs on home ice, but we need to hammer them again in Cambridge. Hope the team won't be rusty when the Maine Black Bears come calling at the end of the month. (Shabby, your Bruins are unbelieveable this season. My Rangers are in a hole they may not climb out of. "What a difference a season makes," as Doris Day once sang)

We have the leading scorer in the league, Alex Young tied in total points but leading in goals scored. DiPaulo and Mitten tied for fifth, Verboon tied for eighth, and Colton Young twelvth. After years of anemic scoring it's hard to fathom.
Yes Colskate, my B's have four good lines, and great goaltending. Montgomery has given the defensemen more freedom to pinch in and play more offense. It's obviously working. Of course being healthy is key also.Last edited by sshablak; 12-04-2022, 12:07 PM.It all starts with the goaltending.

TeacherBill, maybe it is “Good teams win at home and split on the road.” Either way, win or sweep, it is just a phrase that I have always heard around college hockey.
Magoo, you are absolutely right about Reid Irwin. Give credit to the one who recruited him.
Shabby, sour grapes make for a bitter whine, as you pointed out. As for Skate79’s “Expect a very different result in Cambridge” line… heck, when my ticket was scanned last night, I expected a very different result. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised by how we played up to their level with both speed and skill. I now know that we can do it and I have no reason to believe that we won’t do it again (remember last year’s ‘Gate record of four wins and one loss versus Cornell). And, if we do beat Harvard in Cambridge, I can already hear the excuse that Harvard was looking past Colgate on Friday, January 27, in anticipation of their next night’s game against Cornell. Blah, blah, blah.
Last thought tonight… Colgate tickets are $17 each. ASU was $75 each. Next weekend, I am taking in Penn State at Notre Dame on Friday and Minnesota State (Mankato) at Bowling Green on Saturday. Those tix were $35 and $26 each, respectively. I may complain about our $4 coffee at Class of ‘65 Arena, but, overall, we have it good. And, for comparison, Fort Wayne at Toledo (ECHL) on Sunday was $28. Those prices are just for the tickets and don’t reflect the additional fees.Last edited by iowabasedtraveler; 12-05-2022, 12:55 AM.

OK, so we are planning to go back to 'Gate for the first time in years to see a game or two around the New Year.
Thing is, we have both blown-out a meniscus or two playing tennis all summer, and we need railings to descend stairs right now, before our surgeries. (Ain't it grand to get old?)
The Colgate seating chart is great; it seems to show what areas have railings. I'm going to call the box office to verify that, but we have to wonder if those seats are for season ticket holders..?
Any input from regular attendees would be very much appreciated.
(Shabby..?)

BlackBear/Fisherman, I am a season ticket holder in Section 9 and I have leg/foot braces on both legs and I am the world’s biggest advocate for hand-railings… and Section 9 has great ones. Section 9 gets a fair few opposing fans, too. I suspect the rest of the arena has similar hand-railings, but I have never sat elsewhere at the rink. You can also buy into the Sullivan Suite, arrive early and get seats at the window (looking lengthwise down the ice).

Fish, sorry I can't help you, I always stand at the railing on the top. I think there are handrails everywhere, but not sure. These days the rink doesn't even get half full, you will pretty much be able to sit anywhere you want.It all starts with the goaltending.

‘71 the railings are good throughout the rink. Every section has them but they have breaks in them every two rows or so so that you can get from one side to the other.
there was an interesting article about gate on the ECAC page of USCHO today.
I will say it is a positive twist to what we see on the ice, basically that we can win every year no matter what we do in the regular season (brought up our final four appearance after finishing 12th) etc.
interesting read and interesting to see how others see the program for the outside

It absolutely blows to have to worry about railings, but until we get the surgeries, that's what we have.

Last night, on my way home from Knoxville, Iowa, I stopped to watch Penn State at Notre Dame. I cheered for former Alaska Fairbanks coach Guy Gadowski’s Penn State and they won 5-2.
Tonight I stopped to watch Minnesota State (Mankato) at Bowling Green State University. I cheered for former Omaha assistant coach Mike Hastings’ Minnesota State and they won 6-2.
But, what was really funny tonight is that I sat next to a long-time BGSU season ticket-holder and we began chatting (as I was wearing my HelmetHead Design hoodie and my Colgate Hockey knit cap). I told him that I was a Colgate season ticket-holder and that I enjoyed traveling to college hockey games.
So he asks, ‘as you IowaBasedTraveler or something?’
he he he… my reputation clearly precedes me… and it is all because of this thread!! It turns out that he is HockeyJohn and he is a rabid college hockey fan. Too much fun!
P.S. - Winning Mankato goalie Alex Tracy’s helmet was painted by my friend John Sparano of HelmetHead Design of Omaha, Nebr.
