  • Missed the first 2 periods and reluctantly started watching third - but then the comeback started and it was very nice to see. Depleted squad right now with 3 of top 6 scorers out last night prior to game (not counting Zapernick which was a further loss due to major). We struggle to score and had ~25% of goals out of lineup. Cats showed some grit and had 3 on 1 break late in game that they didn't cash in on. Nice to see Massimo step up and have 1G + 1A as he has been close the past few weeks. Expecting to see Gabe in nets tonight if past goalie rotation is utilized. Lets see what the boys can do tonight.

    • Considering all the people hurt/sick and being down 3 on the road that 3rd period was probably one of the best periods of the year even if you throw out the 5 minute major they did nothing on.

          • I'm turning into a 3rd period viewer and its working. Was at local HS game and saw the score but tuned into NESN for 3rd period when I got home. Guys were playing like they weren't down by 3. Then after the tie at 3-3 to have UMASS come right down and score to take the lead alot of teams would have folded, but they didn't. Considering everything the guys gave their all. I don't care about shoot-out results as its so variable (understand the HE point implication). Great PK this weekend, great scoring 7 goals at even strength. But PP was 0-10 maybe because we were missing some key pieces as past few weeks PP has been achieving higher %. 1-2 PP goals this weekend and outcomes are probably different. Hoping to see a few victories down the stretch. Go Cats Go....

            • Yeah some illness ran through the team this weekend and it kinda killed the depth esp up front

                  • Was wondering about his status. Good to see he's getting another opportunity. Never worked out here at UVM over two years. Background - from Point-Claire (outside Montreal ~ 2 hours from Burlington). Came as a combination package with his older brother - Azzaro - who also left UVM. Neither did much offensively (see article below). Never heard anything bad or attitude being poor from them. In fairness - as you see below Dovar was very young when he started college and the impacts of Covid/Quarantines/ect. probably contributed to this not working out. At one point was listed as B prospect on NHL central scouting. Seems like he is an OK player in good junior program.

Dovar Tinling, last season's youngest player in NCAA hockey, leaves Vermont program

                    Burlington Free Press

University of Vermont men's hockey sophomore Dovar Tinling told the coaching staff Sunday he plans to continue his career in junior hockey, the school's athletic department said in a news release. Tinling, the youngest player in NCAA hockey during his freshman campaign when he was 17, leaves the Catamounts program as they return from winter break later this week. UVM (3-11-2) plays hosts to RPI on Thursday. "Dovar has been an excellent part of this team for 26 games, he is a student in good academic standing and he has a bright future ahead of him," UVM coach Todd Woodcroft said in a statement. "This being an NHL draft year, Dovar will have an opportunity to showcase his game alongside players of his own age group. We sincerely wish Dovar all the best and thank him for all his contributions, both on and off the ice."

                    • In hindsight they brought him in too early. Not sure if that was something that he and his family were pushing for or if it was the coaching staff. Was really excited to see him, just needed some more time in junior to develop and get stronger. Congrats to him on finding a new team!

On a similar note, I saw Raimonds Vitolins has committed to Miami. Having a strong year in the USHL. I was really surprised to see him go, but hopefully it works out.

Also Ryan St. Louis is still uncommitted after heading back to USHL. Officially not returning to Northeastern. Well over a point per game this year with Dubuque. I can still hold out hope, right?

                      • Thanks for the comments about Tinling. BTW, his older brother is playing ACHA hockey at UNLV. Clearly UVM indeed took them as a combo.

I also suspect that he was too young to succeed in the HEA, and also he was somewhat overrated. Neutral Zone rated him at 4.5 *'s before you got him, and now he is at 4.0 *'s. If he is really that good, he will be a success at RPI. If anyone wants to post anything further and doesn't want to post it here, you can use the RPI Recruit thread.

                        • Ok been 8 days and we need a post. Was at NU/UVM game on Saturday. Initial impressions - Cats played tough. Game had alot of up/down flow, and fun to watch. NU's 1st goal was a laser bar down that gave them the 1-0 lead. Cats generated 42 total shots and had many offensive chances. I felt the shots were legit and not just a bunch from the outside. Beating Devon Levi was tough as he is a quality goaltender (steal with 7th round pick). We got into his kitchen alot for many scramble type plays but couldn't get it past him. Maybe a little more action on screens/tips - but he has stopped 155 of 161 shots over his last 4 games, is a Richter winner last year and finalist this year (most have him in top 3 this year). All in all I felt the Cats played hard, executed and it was not a clunker of a game. This just happens in hockey sometimes. ENG to make margin 3, so really a 2-0 game. Left the building feeling OK with the effort. On a positive - great crowd on Saturday. Announced crowd of 3069 and looking around it felt like highest attendance of the year. Coaching staff mentioned crowd support in radio post game comments.

                          • Levi is just sooo good. Is he the best former UVM commit ever? Plus Northeastern played great team defense in that 3rd period.

Really hoping they can steal something this weekend against BU. Would be a great win for the program. Hoping to make it to the women's game and the men's game on Saturday.

Looks like we got another Minnesotan to commit this week. Woodcroft really seems to like recruiting out of Minnesota public high school hockey.

                            • I don't have alot of insight on who we've lost over the years that initially said they were coming and then changed course or better said were influenced to not come. I am familiar with the Levi story on changing course and it's very clear that people questioned him on why was he coming here with Kevin S. as head coach. Again not only did the previous regime decimate our depth and leave the cupboard ultra bare but it even impacted quality players who changed course (IE Levi). Heard about the next Minn recruit and again looks like size 6' 4" 195 lbs, and this makes 3 from that state.

                              • Been following NHL trade status and reading articles (many times writer's dreaming up scenarios) and had to chuckle when I saw Luca Munzenberger name thrown in a potential Oiler deal. Nice to see some our drafted players at least being considered for future pro opportunities.
