Re: the ticketing -- there is no good reason for RPI not to have electronic ticketing, other than making the failure to make the commitment to purchase and maintain the technology, which for a school like RPI should be a no brainer. The obvious added benefit to the athletics dept. is the opportunity to market directly to your customers through text messaging and emails, which is as has been pointed out here by others is how the younger generation transacts business. I regularly get promotional messages from UMass, SLU and other schools where I have made online purchases.

Re: the scrimmages -- I recall back in my competitive sport days its was ALWAYS a good thing when you got to play against someone other than the guys wearing the same colors as yours. For the fans its a first glance at seeing the new guys, getting everybody some ice time and seeing what lines Smitty has been tinkering with in the early going.

Wicked -Way back in the dark ages, I played in a few preseason scrimmages myself in a couple sports. Back then I had only 2 thoughts in mind -first, impress the coach and second, do not under any circumstance get hurt! Sometimes, they were in reverse order but remained my two priorities. Most of my team mates I expect had the same thoughts. How we fared against the opponent meant nothing, or next to nothing. You are 100% correct with your assessment but it is still so hard to take anything away from a scrimmage about how well a team will be competitive.
I often wonder about those folks who insist on betting on pre season NFL games?? I understand it is simply a bet like any other placed in a casino and the need to bet is important for some. But how can you make any sensible bet for or against a point spread when a coach is not concerned much about a win or a loss? Or by how many points they can run up? Or whether he can remove his star quarterback or not as early as the first quarter?
Take the shortest distance to the puck and arrive in ill humor

I just want to see guys wearing Cherry-and-white playing hockey. I'll still watch intently to try and find my new favorites. I remember watching Mark Miller go flying over the boards for an early shift in his first exhibition game and I knew right away he was on my list. With two exhibition games it will be interesting to see how Coach divides up playing time. Rather than putting 25+ guys on the bench he'll presumably rotate skaters between the games. For goalies I suspect he'll play Watson in one game and have Miller and Cherepak split the other. That's better than the 1 period approach in single exhibition games.

Ditto!!! It is not just an age thing. It is a smart enough to know thing that this garbage is just another potential and totally unnecessary threat to having delicate personal information exposed via a breach. Just like the multiple notices I have already received informing me that my information may have been compromised via a breach at a national box store, an online hardware company and even my freaking general medical practitioners' practice. Yet another came from my bank after there were THREE unsuccessful attempts to access my accounts via computer. Most annoyingly, the bank was beyond ecstatic that their security worked but had absolutely no interest in even trying to trace where these attempts (a crime) originated from.

Regardless, those four instances of risks that resulted from breaches were all obviously unavoidable. Two would have never happened at all had I not been renovating an older home at the time. Risk a fifth one just to go to a freaking game?? I don't think so. Just cash the damm check and send the tickets. That goes double for a place that was breached so bad in May of 2021 that they were entirely out of business for at least an entire week to the point where they could not even give final exams!!!

I don't disagree, but seeing as I currently don't have any tickets and they have my money, I'd be happy to settle for a virtual ticket at this point.... ha h a

I met Martin A. Schmidt '81 Ph.D. 19th President at the Boston Marriott Long Wharf last night at an Alumni "Meet and Greet." Lovely family and an impressive resume. About 200 folks were there, many from board meetings, which were held at the Hotel during the day. I thought it's great to have a President who is also an alumnus. I am trying to get my arms around what his appointment will mean for better alumni and student relations and for athletics in general and RPI hockey in particular. I stopped giving to the annual fund a long time ago. Maybe I should reconsider.

The transmitter tower is being repaired, so I doubt they’ll be games this weekend (football included) aired. But we were planning on doing Sunday’s exhibition.
