It's highly unlikely Miller would be interested. He's been approached for many years and always turned down head coaching jobs.
His daughter told me several years ago her dad has no interest in being a head coach. He doesn't want the full weight of the responsibilities that goes with it and wants the flexibility being an assistant so he can continue to help with international competition.

Steve Miller? not for head coach. No on Blasi (not sure what happened at Miami but they were bad his last 3-4 years). Dumais is out east so that's a tough one for a midwest team recruiting wise. Todd Knott is interesting. Considered one of the better recruiters around and been super successful with Mankato and Hastings. He's in his 40's or so. Is he head coach material?

Coached the Sioux City Musketeers when he was very young. He was in over his head. But several years have passed since then, and Coach Hastings has made him his Associate Head Coach and has tremendous faith in him. He's kinda caught in the middle right now. We pay him well enough that he's not going to take an Atlantic Hockey-type job, but his lack of head coaching experience keeps him out of the big name discussions. You might hire him as an Associate Head Coach, give him a pay bump, and it could work out for both sides.

Twice over the last couple years, I happened to bump into Tony, entirely outside of any 'hockey related' activity or context, and ended up having a couple minute conversations each time, also entirely unrelated to hockey. Nice guy, funny. Really sorry it didn't work out better for him and for the UW team.

Here's hoping he lands on his feet in a good situation. But, yeah, it had to be done.

Honestly, I like that.

I don’t know what I don’t know about his coaching, but his playing style was all heart and grit and performing above his skill level. His line with Licari and Degenhardt was something to behold. And quite frankly: they played in a way that Granato’s teams rarely did.

If one guy was to stay, I wanted it to be him. And LaPoint.

My recollection of your football hire is that it basically came out of nowhere. And you nailed that hire. Wasn't Alvarez AD who hired Granato? If that's the case I would cut this new guy some slack. If the football hire is any indication you're in good shape.

I wish Tony all the best. Badger royalty is Badger royalty. Like Bart Starr as GB coach, sometimes it just doesn’t work.

Absolutely 100% agree.
When we got our socks blown off 6 years ago we were all excited. It wasn't long after that we figured out it wasn't to be.
Now we hope the UW does the right thing and gets the right person with a winning attitude and track record.
Is it time to ditch my NHL allowance for next year and put in for Badger Hockey tickets?
The next few months will tell me!
