  • Looks like Brown flew back to Iowa yesterday almost immediately after meeting with Leahy. My gut says if they were going to hire him, he wouldn’t have flown back on the same day

Maybe he likes to spend time with his family in the offseason? Why stick around here if there wasn't going to be a press conference announcing his hire in the next 24-48 hours?

Haha ya, surely they just stopped in Dubuque for him to grab a change of clothes and head to Michigan to meet with all the ntdp guys they have committed

            • In case you were curious what irrelevant Twitter users want:

              https://twitter.com/BCHockeyBlogger/...T3WarlFXQ&s=19

This will prove to be the ultimate test of resume vs. family member. With what Leaman did at Union and has done at PC, his resume blows Greg Brown away. There's really no other way to spin that. Yet the source who gave me the Kevin Shea nugget is a BC guy through and through. He wants nothing to do with Leaman. And judging from what I see from BC people they want Greg Brown.

              • Don't know if it is between Brown and Leaman but if it is then Brown hands down.

                • My mindset with this hiring is I think a lot of people have 2 different approaches looking at this hire. 1. Some are looking at it as a, the sky is falling, the system York built was broken, it had deviated too much from what made the program great and BC needs to adapt someone else's system to win. 2. The other way people are looking at it is, the system needs a couple of tweaks and BC will be back to being a perrenial powerhouse

I see people who look at it with the approach of scenario 1 as Leaman advocates and in scenario 2 as Brown advocates.

Now what really gets my gears turning is, I wonder if people would see this hiring process and the candidates in completely different light if the 2019-20 season actually was completed. Let's say that team wins the hockey east and makes a frozen four appearance which isn't a stretch, the team was gross and they were on a tear. Newhook looked like the best freshman I had seen since Gaudreau and was 7th in the country in scoring tied with Julius Mattila. Would a lot of people see where BC is today and where it's going in a completely different perspective? I think they would especially with the recruiting classes they have in the hopper

                  • The system is not broken, what has changed is college hockey writ large. There are few programs that can hang on to their NHL prospects for 4 years. It requires a different approach to recruiting, add in the open portal and a COVID season and everything becomes more complicated. BC did not get the high level transfers this year and the Freshman class was average at best. The Golden Age may be over and other teams in HE have caught up but BC will be at the top every year going forward. This year injuries and the Olympics changed the trajectory.

                    • Leaman is a proven winner with a different approach to recruiting than being at a blue blood. I definitely understand the Greg Brown sentiment but if somebody handed Leahy the two resumes without names on them this wouldn't even be close.

This right here. Leaman is by far the most proven coach of the two. This can’t even be debated. I take the proven coach 100 times out of 100.

                        • 265 votes on that poll. Sure, a meaningless small sample of Twitter but 68% vote Greg Brown.

                              • As a BC alum, glad that the school didn't overpay for a coach. The BC platform is good enough to attract recruits without overpaying for a "big name" hire.
