I hope you're right ! I think you just stirred up the "naysayers", get ready. Big storm coming thurs-friday...ice then 18-24 inches of snow being forecasted. Might be a good move to move the games to Sat-Sunday.

As we turn the page to a new month, and the Groundhog sees his shadow, I see the fortunes of 'Gate hockey changing radically. That OT win over Dartmouth will propel us to a higher standard of play. I see us taking 1 out of 2 against Cornell and an upset win over QU, plus an OT tie vs Clarkson. Call me an optimist - ya gotta keep the faith. The kids are playing their hearts out. It's gonna be a new day, a new month, and a new series of positive results on the ice.

Benson did play well as silly turnovers in our own zone continue to plague this team...and Vachon has been our best forward over the last several weeks...the overall passing of this team is sometimes so bad that I wonder (seriously) if the ice at the Class of 65 is imperfect...four of our last 9 games are against Cornell (2), Q-Pac and Clarkson...we tend to play Clarkson tough, but hard to imagine a win against Cornell or Q-Pac...4 points out of 12 against these teams would be good...a continuation of the performance Mitch displayed last night would be huge...BTW, give Dartmouth a lot of credit for their effort last night: 3 games in 4 days with their top three centers absent against us...they are well coached by a Pecknold disciple and I expect Dartmouth to become a very competitive program in 2-3 years...

Attaboy Rain, we needed that win badly. The powerplay definitely needs work, Bensen played very well in net.

Last night had the potential to be the most frustrating loss in recent memory. We had 9 minutes of PP time in the 1st period with 0 goals, and the Dartmouth goalie had a highlight-reel glove save when one of our players shot the puck at an open net. Then Dartmouth went up 1-0 in the 2nd and I got that sinking feeling…

Then in the final 7 minutes of the 3rd and OT we pulled a win out of the hat!

They say winning breeds confidence. In the 2010-2011 season everything was going wrong for us then we finally got a win against Clarkson, and we all know what happened after that. Here’s hoping that last night’s win was the turning point for this season.

Well, a win is a win, I guess.
I thought last night’s game was excellent college hockey and we lost.
I thought tonight’s game was crappy hockey and we won.
One thing I think I know for sure… if we play next weekend like we did tonight, it will be a Big Red Blood-letting.
And, GreenCoat, I totally agree… why do we wait for the perfect shot, giving the goalie time to re-position himself. Sheesh!!

In all honesty I think I just witnessed the worst 5-minute PP in all my years of watching hockey...a suggestion for our players? Yes, shoot the puck when it hits your stick, not seconds later compromising time and space...this is really basic stuff...BTW, their best forward - Mark Gallant - is a Colgate decommit...

Mitch Benson, Andrew Farrier and Will Friend led the team out onto the ice tonight (in that order).
Dartmouth #5 out for five minutes (and possible game misconduct) for putting a high stick to Arnaud Vachon.
    2 SOG in 5-minute PP.
Another PP for ‘Gate and no goal.
Shots are 12-1 Colgate and no score.

Colgate 15, Dartmouth 10, SOG after one.
Colgate 0, Dartmouth 0, score after one.

Another ‘Gate PP… pinged it off the pipe.
Both teams like to put it out in front of their own goalie without looking first.
    Well-set-up PPG for Dartmouth.

5-minute major and game misconduct for kneeing to Colgate’s McKechney near period end.

Colgate 22, Dartmouth 21, SOG after two.
Dartmouth 1, Colgate 0, score after two.

Terrible hockey at end of second. Whack-a-Mole at the Carnival is equally entertaining.

Tremendous shot and PPG by Alex Young.

Dartmouth 33, Colgate 30, SOG after three.
Colgate 1, Dartmouth 1, score after three.
    OT up next.

    McDermott with OT winner.

With that in mind, I salute IBT for his dedication. His support of our moribund program is unflagging.

Plunging toward our inevitable destiny of a fifth straight losing season with our last winning record being EIGHT years ago. This is utter madness.

The wheels have been off this bus for what feels like a century. Time to give it a paddle and set it out to sea. After taking the time to re-read past posts, many justify several one-goal losses. Others were convinced we would turn the season around in January. Those who criticize the program with darn good reasons are lambasted, labeled disloyal, or ridiculed…typical strategies for those who can’t admit they’re wrong, just like politicians.
My preseason standings had us 8th, which was generous after a disastrous COVID year where we mustered nothing against the same 3 teams all season. Most on here had us higher.
Was a strong advocate for the new arena, but the intimacy of Starr and a rowdy, packed, elbow-to-elbow student section are sorely missing. As good as Vaughan may have been and as nice as he may be, any recruit should question this program’s lack of success and so should we. Not sure this record would be acceptable at Michigan, NoDak, MN or BU. But it is at sleepy Colgate. This is not to say that the coaches and players do not work hard, but results matter. One day we will win again, yet no further than 2010-2011 to see what a determined team can accomplish.
Thankfully, as the men’s team continues to smolder in the ashes, the women’s team has been transformed and provides us with a reason to celebrate.

An entirely predictable outcome for a program that is now 3-13-2 in its last 18 games...the 15-year nightmare continues: not one good year, one bad one...no, we prefer the Chinese Water Torture approach...consistently below mediocre with (counting this year's inevitable final tally) THREE seasons of winning hockey in 1 1/2 decades...we (meaning those in charge) give the impression they are satisfied with this nightmare...30 years of MIH at a high level has been followed by 15 years of disappointment...if you prefer, we can simply go back to 2015-16 and do the math (it's even more pathetic)...I guess our Mensa Candidates thought $38M allocated to a (nice) new facility would automatically lift the program from mediocrity...as TheCoat has opined before, the approval, construction and opening of this facility should've marked the START of a new era, not the culminating act that ensured success...eagerly awaiting my robot-signed, two paragraph "thank you" note from Silver Puck, despite reducing my annual gift by 75 per cent...you would think SPC would inquire as to why, after 40+ years of gifting, I've backed down to dollar levels from the early eighties...Program decisions, like the one we are facing - and have faced for too many years - are not easy...I get it; we all get it on this thread, whether you're a cynic or a optimist...I've railed against our "snowflakes" not attending home games in sufficient numbers...frankly I don't blame them...most other ECAC programs tend to improve over the course of a season; can you honestly say that re: Colgate's MIH? Change can be hard, especially when you're dealing with good people, loyal contributors to Colgate...but it's time for our new AD (who was very involved in marketing our new Colgate "C") to get down to this business at hand and DO HER JOB...

Andrew Farrier, Mitch Benson and Will Friend led the team out onto the ice for tonight’s pre-game warm-up, in that order. Shabby, can you tell if it is a positive feeling for Colgate, or a negative feeling, or just gas?

PPG for Harvard followed up seconds later with an even strength goal. While on penalty kill, we had control of the puck and couldn’t clear it, resulting in the first goal.

Minutes later, Josh McKechney scored for Colgate, assisted by Colton Young.

    Donato with Harvard’s third goal.

Power play opportunity with no shots.
Second power play opportunity results in scrum in front of Harvard net and Verboon goal.

Harvard 14, Colgate 9, SOG after one.
Harvard 3, Colgate 2, score after one.

Colgate had some real opportunities and never gave up after getting (and being) behind.

Penalty kill successful to start second period, followed by a big goal from Griffin Lunn.

Pep Band in the house and a vocal contingent of students.

Harvard doing sling-back passes, two on same charge. Now Colgate doing the exact same.

Coach Vaughan getting vocal. Harvard coach Donato jawing at ref, so DV shouts across the ice, ‘let’s get this game going.’

Harvard 27, Colgate 21, SOG after two.
Colgate 3, Harvard 3, score after two.

This is an excellent college hockey game.

3-3 tie in the third period against Harvard and LWB takes second penalty of the night. We killed it, but have to stop taking penalties if we want to win games like this.

Four minutes to go, under cries of ‘Get It Out! Get It Out!, a big defensive miscue results in Harvard goal. Two minutes later, another.

    Harvard penalty. Colgate empty net.

Harvard 39, Colgate 31, final SOG.
Harvard 5, Colgate 3, final score.
