Can someone tell me the benefit of the drop pass when we are on the power play?

I always thought the recipient of the pass "should" be skating faster than the defensemen, who have to slow down near their blue line or they would back in near their goalie. Of course this assumes the puck carrier gets thru the neutral zone. Maybe others will chime in ?

Creates a different angle and allows more room to move. The defender is always going to play the player with the puck so the drop pass creates different angles to skate into and the defender was not addressing the new player sktinf

OFF TOPIC, but this is Monday a long time till the next game: What did posters think of last night's ending to the Chiefs-Bills game? Is a coin toss the way to end a playoff game that was so unbelievable down the stretch? Should each team have a chance with the ball in OT? Or did the Bills deserve to lose because they couldn't stop KC with 13 second to go? Should the NFL OT rules be changed? Sound off if you have an opinion.....

Sunday night's Bills-Chiefs game was very reminiscent of the Patriots-Chiefs AFC Championship game 3 years ago. Both games had a lot of 4th quarter scores and lead changes, then the game went into overtime. In that game, the Patriots won the OT coin toss and scored a TD, keeping Patrick Mahomes on the bench. So the Chiefs have now been on both sides of this OT scenario.

But I agree, both teams should have at least 1 possession in OT. They already do that in college football.

Andrew Farrier, Mitch Benson and Will Friend led the team out onto the ice for tonight’s pre-game warm-up, in that order. Shabby, can you tell if it is a positive feeling for Colgate, or a negative feeling, or just gas?

PPG for Harvard followed up seconds later with an even strength goal. While on penalty kill, we had control of the puck and couldn’t clear it, resulting in the first goal.

Minutes later, Josh McKechney scored for Colgate, assisted by Colton Young.

Colgate had some real opportunities and never gave up after getting (and being) behind.

This is an excellent college hockey game.

3-3 tie in the third period against Harvard and LWB takes second penalty of the night. We killed it, but have to stop taking penalties if we want to win games like this.

Four minutes to go, under cries of ‘Get It Out! Get It Out!, a big defensive miscue results in Harvard goal. Two minutes later, another.

An entirely predictable outcome for a program that is now 3-13-2 in its last 18 games...the 15-year nightmare continues: not one good year, one bad one...no, we prefer the Chinese Water Torture approach...consistently below mediocre with (counting this year's inevitable final tally) THREE seasons of winning hockey in 1 1/2 decades...we (meaning those in charge) give the impression they are satisfied with this nightmare...30 years of MIH at a high level has been followed by 15 years of disappointment...if you prefer, we can simply go back to 2015-16 and do the math (it's even more pathetic)...I guess our Mensa Candidates thought $38M allocated to a (nice) new facility would automatically lift the program from mediocrity...as TheCoat has opined before, the approval, construction and opening of this facility should've marked the START of a new era, not the culminating act that ensured success...eagerly awaiting my robot-signed, two paragraph "thank you" note from Silver Puck, despite reducing my annual gift by 75 per cent...you would think SPC would inquire as to why, after 40+ years of gifting, I've backed down to dollar levels from the early eighties...Program decisions, like the one we are facing - and have faced for too many years - are not easy...I get it; we all get it on this thread, whether you're a cynic or a optimist...I've railed against our "snowflakes" not attending home games in sufficient numbers...frankly I don't blame them...most other ECAC programs tend to improve over the course of a season; can you honestly say that re: Colgate's MIH? Change can be hard, especially when you're dealing with good people, loyal contributors to Colgate...but it's time for our new AD (who was very involved in marketing our new Colgate "C") to get down to this business at hand and DO HER JOB...

The wheels have been off this bus for what feels like a century. Time to give it a paddle and set it out to sea. After taking the time to re-read past posts, many justify several one-goal losses. Others were convinced we would turn the season around in January. Those who criticize the program with darn good reasons are lambasted, labeled disloyal, or ridiculed…typical strategies for those who can’t admit they’re wrong, just like politicians.
My preseason standings had us 8th, which was generous after a disastrous COVID year where we mustered nothing against the same 3 teams all season. Most on here had us higher.
Was a strong advocate for the new arena, but the intimacy of Starr and a rowdy, packed, elbow-to-elbow student section are sorely missing. As good as Vaughan may have been and as nice as he may be, any recruit should question this program’s lack of success and so should we. Not sure this record would be acceptable at Michigan, NoDak, MN or BU. But it is at sleepy Colgate. This is not to say that the coaches and players do not work hard, but results matter. One day we will win again, yet no further than 2010-2011 to see what a determined team can accomplish.
Thankfully, as the men’s team continues to smolder in the ashes, the women’s team has been transformed and provides us with a reason to celebrate.
