I understand that 'a loss is a loss,' but here are our ten losses (to-date)...

Merrimack 5 at Colgate 3,
Arizona State 4 at Colgate 3 (OT),
Western Michigan 6 at Colgate 5,
Western Michigan 2 at Colgate 1 (OT),
Colgate 2 at Dartmouth 3,
Colgate 1 at Harvard 5,
Union 2 at Colgate 0,
Colgate 1 at Connecticut 6,
Colgate 1 at Clarkson 2,
Colgate 3 at Saint Lawrence 4.

2 Overtime losses, and another 4 losses where we lose by a single goal in regulation. The Merrimack loss and the 6-5 loss to WMU were both games where we had a 2-goal lead in the 3rd period AT HOME! That can be really deflating!

We are 2-6 in "close" games this season. A "close" game is one where we win/lose by a single goal, or a game where a late empty-net goal results in a 2-goal margin of victory/defeat. The law of averages would indicate that over an entire season, a team would have close to a .500 record in close games. We saw this up close in 2010-11.

But we had another weekend where in one game, we're great defensively but struggle to score and lose, and in the other game we DO score goals only to have a bad night defensively and STILL lose. It gives you that feeling you need to play a "perfect game" in order to win.

That 6-5 loss to WMU derailed us the past month. I'm hoping the break in the schedule will allow us to reset.

Northern Michigan (Trevor Cosgrove) now 10-6-1 after SWEEPING UMD last weekend...UMass-Lowell at 8-3-3 with Nick Austin...draw your own conclusions...it may mean zip, but then again...

Congrats to Greg Fargo of the WIH program on getting a new contract up to 2028. He has shown how to start a program and grow it to the point where it is of championship calibre every season.....and usually ranked in the top 5-6..... cough...cough..

Some people follow the PairWise Rankings (PWR) after Christmas, some after the New Year, and others not until mid-March.
Because I attend the ECAC tourney, an NCAA Regional and the Frozen Four, I tend to follow it all season.

No major mood swings since December 1.

Smaller classes are more common in the schollie era, plus remember we still have kids with an extra year of eligibility due to Covid. I found this on the Holy Cross board...

"From what I have seen this is what the schools are reporting on their first signing day in terms of total commitments:

Bucknell - 13
Fordham - 7
Lehigh - 9
Lafayette - 5 - doesn't shock me with coaching change
Georgetown - 8
Colgate - 8
Holy Cross - 8"

We had one kid who's signing was announced a day late, so your 9 # is I think right.

Dear Raider Fans,

As the country experiences a rise in COVID cases, including the emergence of the omicron variant, Colgate Athletics is implementing an additional series of precautionary measures to protect student-athletes, coaches, staff, fans, and the community.

Beginning immediately, indoor concessions at Cotterell Court and the Class of 1965 Arena will be temporarily discontinued and fans will not be permitted to bring outside food and beverage into Colgate Athletics’ venues. Fans wishing to eat or drink outside or at their vehicles may re-enter the venue by showing their Colgate-issued wristband.

Spectator protocols for indoor home contests will shift on January 21, just in advance of the return of Colgate students to campus. As of Friday, January 21, spectators age 16 and up will be required to present proof of a booster shot. Those who do not have proof of a booster must present:

• a positive COVID-19 test, dated between 14 and 90 days prior to the start of the event,
• a negative PCR test, taken no earlier than 72 hours prior to the start of the event, or
• a negative antigen test*, taken no earlier than 24 hours prior to the start of the event.

Those spectators who are ineligible for a booster shot (e.g., individuals age 5-15) must present proof of vaccination. Children four and under are not required to have a negative test, but must be accompanied by a guardian.

*At home tests will not be accepted.

Approved forms of documentation showing booster or vaccination include New York State's Excelsior pass or the CDC's Vaccination Card (photo of card is acceptable). Members of the Colgate community — students, staff, and faculty — can produce their valid 'gate card.

Masking will remain mandatory at all indoor home athletic events.

Until January 21, Colgate Athletics’ spectator policy remains as follows:
Spectators age 12 and up will be required to present photo identification and proof of full vaccination. Those who do not have proof of full vaccination must present:

• a positive COVID-19 test, dated between 14 and 90 days prior to the start of the event,
• a negative PCR test, taken no earlier than 72 hours prior to the start of the event, or

Attendees two years of age or older from outside the campus community who are ineligible for vaccination due to age are asked to wear face coverings at all times.

Colgate Athletics is exploring strategies to make the fan experience as positive and as safe as possible during this particular time, such as allowing the sale of pre-packaged items and bottled water that could be consumed outside during breaks in contests. Such options, if available, will be communicated nearer to game times.
