    • not only have we lost five in a row, but we're back to our old ways on offense: 4 goals in the last 3 games...wonder what impact the 6-5 loss had on both the players and the coach who coaches the players...this is really, really getting tiresome folks...

      • "Hope is a good thing..." - Andy Dufresne, Shawshank Redemption...of course, regarding "Red" that's all the man had left. Are we, the contributors here at USCHO.com and MIH fans in general, now consigned to the same fate? Even TheGreenCoat, the cynical slob, has hope at times (a 5-0 lead on WMU certainly an example)...but after almost a decade and a half resignation becomes reality very quickly...will we ever be released from our own personal hell of Shawshank? Frankly, it's up to Nicki Moore (with whom I have minimal confidence) and President Casey...I guess it could be worse: look at football and, even more shocking, men's soccer (a program under Ronning that has made 6 NCAA appearances including a final 16) that scored FOUR goals in an 0-18 season...something really stinks from the head down, sadly...

        • Is Alex LaFreniere any relation to the New York Rangers' Alexis LaFreniere? It would seem, after his goal scoring spree last night, that he must be?

            • What a disappointing weekend.

We had 2 inherent advantages against both Dartmouth and Harvard: playing last season, and playing more total games this season!

It's still early but much of the optimism that I had after seeing this team score 8 goals on Arizona State has faded.

                • Some people go to amusement parks for the thrill of a roller-coaster ride, but I follow Colgate men’s ice hockey. Hosting RPI and Union this weekend, my heart would like to see us sweep two teams that had last season off. My head thinks losing to RPI and beating Union is more realistic. But, who knows? Games are being played at the Class of ‘65 Arena, so we could conceivably lose both.

Off topic... Last night I ventured to Buffalo, N.Y., to see Morrisville State take on Buffalo State. It was another new arena for me, despite it being my alma mater. 3-0 Bengals win over the Mustangs. D-1 still rocks.

                  • Carter Gylander led ‘Gate onto the ice for tonight’s ECAC Hockey match-up with RPI.
Linden Marshall led RPI on the ice.

PairWise Ranking (PWR) is the computerized methodology which basically determines the 16-team NCAA tournament field. As more games are played, PWR becomes more meaningful. But, I still prefer its rankings to those of subjective (media and coach) polls. Interestingly, going into tonight, Harvard is PWR number 6 (out of 59 teams playing this season). And who are ranked 25-29? RPI, Cornell, Colgate, Clarkson and Saint Lawrence. Interesting.

Josh McKechney scored first from Elliott McDermott.

RPI 11, Colgate 6, SOG after one.
Colgate 1, RPI 0, score after one.

                    Linden scored for RPI.
Seconds later it was Colton Young from Jeff Stewart.
Josh McKechney from Alex Young for Colgate’s third goal.
                    Matt Verboon with a PPG.

Colgate 22, RPI 17, SOG after two.
Colgate 4, RPI 1, score after two.

Matt Verboon with a nicely set-up goal.
                    Tomorrow’s game is a 4 o’clock start.
RPI scores right after their PP ended in last two minutes of game.

Colgate 27, RPI 27, final SOG.
Colgate 5, RPI 2, final score.

                    • Well, three doe and one buck crossing in front of me on my drive home tonight, but I made it in time to still revel in tonight’s 5-2 win. The biggest take-away for me is that we didn’t try to sit on the 4-1 lead for the entire third period. We continued to play aggressive and even scored a fifth. The second take-away is that we never let them build any momentum. The Colton Young goal 21 seconds after they scored to tie things in the second period was HUGE. My last take-away is that this is how a team gets back on track... good goaltending, a little firepower (against a goalie who didn’t have a great night) and solid defense (limiting them to just 27 shots in three periods). And we pinged two off the pipes for added measure. P.S. - thanks CU13.

                      • I only saw the second period and last ten mins of the third. Have to say, best I've seen them play this year. Nobody picked us to win !
It all starts with the goaltending.

                        • very good second period after being outplayed in period #1...we're a little up and down this year (obviously) but the upside is tangibly higher than in years' past...is that attendance figure correct (350)...my God that is awful...I guess our snowflakes have better things to do than support their (legitimate) student-athletes...sad...

                          • GreenCoat, I agree on period one. But I thought it was a comedy of errors by both teams. I have gotten to know an RPI season ticket holder who travels to Colgate/Cornell each year. He sat beside me last night; his first in-person game since Covid hit. He said not playing last season cost them their top players (including goalie Owen Savory), then the remaining team just got no real experience. He also remarked on the lack of fans. I knew it was going to be bad when I arrived at 6 p.m. and there were possibly six cars in the parking lot. And, when I got my wristband, there were no mimeographed rosters. Apparently the small crowds don’t even justify that minimal effort this year.

                            • Iowa, good to see you last night... my first game in person since Covid as well. Agree crowd was small, though that meant us late arrivers could still get a parking spot! We've discussed in regard to football, but maybe not here that our Sports Information Dept is down a couple of employees including the SID (John Painter, who left last spring). Why replacements haven't been put in place I have no idea, but it's noticeable both at the games and on the website. That said, I did get a roster sheet when I walked in halfway through the first period...

                              • Raiders looked a well-oiled machine and glad they could close it out with a W. Already have the split, let's get one more.
