MSU beat St. Cloud 1-0 in front of a near-sellout crowd of 4,555. Dryden McKay made 20 saves to record his NCAA career record tying 26th shutout. The crowd was really into it; it was great to back to hockey in person.

Not sure who was all there last night but that game started off extremely fast. I'll be interested to see how much energy they have tonight. It was a really good game. Much more entertaining then 1-0 game usually is.All hockey players are bilingual. They know English and profanity. - Gordie Howe

I don't claim to be enough of a hockey maven to tell whether St. Cloud was better tonight or if the Mavs were a little worse. I do know those were two very good hockey teams the last two nights. My guy is a hard-nosed hockey player who is not afraid to crash the net. Your guy is a goon who runs the goalie.

Was able to watch both games. Tight defensive minded games both nights from both teams. Scoring chances extremely limited both ways. Both goalies played well but neither had to make many highlight reel saves. Saturday night had a ton of penalties as both teams were getting frustrated by the lack of open ice and ability to get much offense going.
Long way to go but both teams have games that point to potential for a deep run in the NCAAs.

It would sure be nice to be able to watch these Icebreaker games.
What a schedule to start things out. Two against then-#1 Umass at Amherst. Two against #2 St. Cloud. One against #10 Providence.
First-ever matchup with the #3 Wolverines tomorrow. Wow.My guy is a hard-nosed hockey player who is not afraid to crash the net. Your guy is a goon who runs the goalie.

Could be a dangerous weekend at Bowling Green. They always play the Mavs very tough, and Nathan Smith and Coach Hastings are in Beijing. My guy is a hard-nosed hockey player who is not afraid to crash the net. Your guy is a goon who runs the goalie.

In my opinion, Nathan Smith did himself and MSU proud at the Olympics. The experience he gained by playing at this level can only help himself and the Mavericks as we go into the playoffs and the NCAA. We'll see if he plays Friday (I doubt it), but I'm certain he'll be on the ice on Saturday.
And what could have been the outcome had he has scored in the shoot out, we will never know. Coach Quinn showed his confidence in Smith by letting him take the shot. He earned that right, by his play in the previous games.

I highly doubt he will play this weekend. From my understanding, they need 2 negative tests before they can leave. That being said, I think the earliest that they could be on US soil is likely on Friday (and that may be stretching it) and playing that soon after that long of a flight is dicey. They MAY be in the building for 1 or both of the games, but Smith playing seems very unlikely. Hasty coaching could happen.Mess with the bull, you get the horns.
