Bright side: Wisconsin athletic department just gained 6 seats, center ice, lower bowl that they can sell to someone who has had too much thinner to understand they’re getting screwed over as fans.

The normal practice here is the coaches are on what amount to a rolling 4-year deal, with an annual one-year extension.

Not giving him an extension would lower the cost of buying him out to fire him.

How many years were left on Granato's deal before this one year extension? Better to not have a lame duck coach for recruiting purposes but I saw BC give Steve Addazio a one year extension for the sole purpose of lowering his buyout. He was then fired the following year.

Interesting ... and Mel Pearson is not.

Granato confirmed back for next year. I’m cautiously optimistic given that the only year Strobel wasn’t at UW they had a winning record. Of course, that was with Don Granato (who I wanted to be HC when Eaves was let go).

You should fire Granato today and go after Hastings.
Granato isn't getting fired. He is at the hockey conference in Florida. They would not have sent him if he was getting the ax. We will know more soon as the contract meeting for extensions is today.

If MSU makes that happen, Wisconsin immediately becomes the doormat of the Big7. I wanted Hastings 6 years ago. I still say he stays at Mankato. But if he goes to MSU, that would be an incredible hire.

If we’re going to bring in another alum, Brandt would be my #1 pick. Go with a “young” guy.

Its almost past time to do a wholesale coaching change though, I dont know. Dont see how they get the 1yr extensions this week.

At this point I dont know who they wpuld be able to reel in w/o next yr being a total loss. TM mentioned the St. Norbert HC, for Strobs, and that almost seemed very specific. Almost like King is gonna dismiss TG.

Lots of questions at this point.
TM mentioned the lead assistant for St Norbert's, former UW player, Andy Brandt. If TG wanted it to be a UW player, Andy makes sense. Tim Coghlin is the head coach and he is the Bo Ryan of Hockey. If TG was fired, Coughlin would be top of my list of people to talk to, but I have my doubts he would move on from St Norbert's. They just named the rink after him in the last year and he is 58 years old.

"St. Norbert College head coach Tim Coghlin has assembled one of the best coaching resumes in NCAA Division III hockey history.

Coghlin’s teams have compiled a 596-157-58 record in his 27 seasons in De Pere. During that time, St. Norbert is 318-87-35 mark in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.

St. Norbert has appeared in 19 NCAA Division III Tournaments since 1997, highlighted by national championships in 2008, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2018. The Green Knights have made 12 Frozen Four appearances - the second-most in Division III history - and was national runner-up in 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2016. Coghlin’s nine national title game appearances as a head coach is tied for the most in NCAA Division III history."
