  • True that. Lowell is a very tough team when they get a lead. They can't match BC's talent through 4 lines but the first two lines are pretty good. The first game at Conte was a a complete surprise for both teams. Trophy season is here and every game is a dog fight.

    • For whatever reason UNH has given BC fits for two years now.

      UNH 1-0 OT
      BC 2-1
      3-3 tie
      UNH 4-3 OT
      BC 3-2 OT
      BC 3-2

Agree with pretty much all of this.

A couple of years ago, UNH had a 3 goal lead late in the second period in what would have been a decisive playoff game vs. UMass. The 'Cats gacked it up, and some of our apologist fans were explaining how "difficult" it is to hold a multi-goal lead, and how it was "no big deal" against a more talented team. Putting aside, of course, the data and common sense from just watching years and years of hockey, that a 3 goal lead that late in any game ordinarily SHOULD be enough to carry the day.

Today was a great example of why playing a game with a lead - especially a postseason elimination game - is SO important, the three early goals gave BC a cushion where they really didn't have to be at their total best over the last 40 minutes, and winning teams/programs know that and handle their business accordingly. We'll never know for sure, but even if one of the lamented "posts" went UNH's way - as if it's even relevant, it's another shot that didn't go in - does anyone really think the game that follows afterwards bears any resemblance to the game that actually did follow tonight? Countless thousands of small in-game decisions, both players and coaches, go differently, and in all likelihood, the game is still won by BC.

This stuff doesn't happen by accident, for the winners OR the losers. It's delusional to think otherwise.

            • What worries me is losing battles along the wall and in the corners. Teams are being very physical with us and it has an effect. The neutral zone turnovers are troubling. I expect that in January, not March. With Knight, there is no need to force passes through the neutral zone. BC is a young team. It will be interesting to see how they match up physically against the NCHC & B1G teams.

I would put Kuntar back on the 3rd line and Carreau on the 4th. I would even consider putting Kuntar with McBain and Nestarenko. Kuntar wins the battles along the wall and in the corners. He passes well and could set up Nestarenko. Putting Ambrosio with McLaughlin and Giles is another good combination.

Onto to Lowell, they held BU to 17 shots on goal!

              Any word on Izyk?

                • With no non conference games it's tough to say but I would say they are a notch below UND. I'm not sure there is a clear 2nd best team out there though. So with Knight, Boldy/Newhook and solid lineup I think they'll be in every game. Might not be pretty but a lot of teams will be saying that. I just wish if they do happen to get a team down 2 or 3, finish them off.

                  • Also, shelve these particular gold uniforms. The old school whites with "Eagles" on them are much better.

Routinely typing Ferrence is not a typo.

With a 3-0 lead why did they just resort back to old bad habits ?

I can see doing a HR pass sometimes but to force passes constantly is not necessary.

Make the sure safe pass and hit the open man

Dump the puck in deep when you can't do anything rather than turn it over in the neutral zone and allow the opposing team another comeback or odd man rushes

They have this habit of being too loose and nonchalant and sloppy (( in a single elimination format

I can see them easily lose if they play UML or UMass or PC if they make the final

They're just not playing 60 minutes of hockey when it's time to, otherwise you're out in the post season

If they were to play against UMass the way they played the 2nd and 3rd periods against UNH they will not just lose, they will get destroyed.

                          • Tough to destroy BC. Only given up 4 goals in a game once all season and that was on an overtime PP goal with Wilder in net. And they have only been held to one goal twice. One of those games was without both Boldy and Newhook. So if you're gonna beat BC it's more than likely gonna be a 3-2/overtime type game. Can certainly happen obviously but even when they play poorly they are in the game. Even the 3-1 loss to BU they outshot BU 41-23. They aren't quite as lethal in the top six forwards as last year but I think they are deeper at forward in the top nine/all 4 lines. Not blowing teams out every night but really have been pretty damn consistent all season long.

                            • I miss Hutsko, his speed and creativity made him a top three forward, plus his grit , big game experience and senior leadership would really help. His college career was really affected by injuries. I think he was a target for other teams, slow him down and don't let that guy beat you. Now they are after Boldly and Newhook. How about that stick to the jewels by the UNH guy on Ambrosio, they had the advantage of the replay, how was that not a penalty?

                              • Even more credit to the team for being able to forge ahead without Hutsko. They really haven't let it impact them much at all. They aren't as dangerous without him but they have found a way. Take someone of his caliber off of other teams and that's where you see the difference in depth BC has.
