Planning for shortened hockey season already in motion. Sure smells like fall semesters will be held online.

The conferences wouldn't be doing their jobs if they weren't prepared for worst case scenarios. Just because planning has started in case of a delay to the start of the season does not make it more likely than it was yesterday.

        Just the awards part:

Reilly, a senior captain and defenseman from Toronto, Ont., was also named Top Defenseman, Best Defensive Player and Ben Mayo Most Inspirational Player. Savory was the team's Top Goalie, while senior Todd Burgess earned Top Forward honors. Classmate Chase Zieky was the Best Offensive Player and blueliner Cory Babichuk was the Freshman of the Year, with sophomore Ture Linden picking up Most Improve Player honors. The Community Service and Scholar Athlete Awards went to senior TJ Samec and junior Linden Marshall, respectively, while senior Jake Marrello collected the Unsung Hero Award.

Remember way back when the first round was to be played in an empty arena and then, well we all know what happened after that....The western schools were late to the party, so to speak. I am concerned places with less of a problem now will take a chance and allow students to go back and sports to follow, leaving places in the east at a disadvantage. I remember when RPI was closing down the WCHA wasn't even mentioning the pandemic. So I am wondering if there will be a season but only for half the schools?

RPI gets mentioned by Tucker Carlson last night. In a short clip, he mentions the monies being received by the "wealthiest" colleges in the latest bailout. The good news, we get grouped with the elite wealthy schools such as Harvard, Penn, Yale, Stanford and University of Michigan. The bad news is how he portrays RPI (as a school that most would not even know anything about and as not needing the money since it pays it's President an enormous salary (which he mentions along with showing a picture of SAJ with Barack Obama). Worth a quick view for those who missed it. Wonder how much of this money should go into the Hockey program???

So another stunning fact that doesn't look good …. along with Dr J's pay, in the furloughs that were announced this week the entire hockey staff was included in the furloughs with the one exception being Dave Smith. Yet the money that the Dept of Education has set aside for RPI and other institutions was meant for the Students. The money is specifically for the purpose of refunding housing and food expenses. Not that the Houston renovations are ever going to take place but that money should have been more then enough to cover all of the employees that were furloughed.

Hopefully Smitty will take care of his staff while they are idled....

I suspect the primary reason that RPI was included in the story was to show that picture of Obama and Shirley Jackson.

Also in the news last night: Dartmouth's Bob Gaudet retired.

Possibly, but more likely they wanted to make a point about the salary that SAJ takes. They did the same with the University of Michigan football coach and his salary noting that the team will still most likely lose to Ohio State!

Anyone notice the alumni e-mail that SAJ benevolently took a 5% pay cut? Hell must be freezing over.
