Hard to believe Crookshank didn't get one tonight with all the chances he created - it looks like he's taken his game to another level and could be very dangerous year. He'll have to be if UNH is going to generate much offense this season, though missing Engaras and Ward certainly hurts. You'd like to see that pair slotted onto Kelleher's line and move MacAdams and Sato down to the bottom six.
The first PP of Erikkson, Kelleher, Grasso, Pierson and Crookshank needs to be a lot better, not sure where the threat comes from on unit two...Live Free or Die!!

Considering...that this was their first game...and that they haven't practiced (?) as much due to quarantine issues (if that's correct feel free to correct y'all) I was ok with the game last night. Sooo many new faces. Hopefully with the addition of Engaras and MacKinnon (both finishing quarantines as per the UNH announcers) maybe a difference. Would agree tho Dan...offense has to come from somewhere and they did have their chances last night. Crookshank looks great and agree was amazed he didn't pot one or two. We'll see what kind of adjustments they make tonight. I'm not putting alot of stock into this weekend and felt that once Maine got up to speed more in the 2nd and certainly 3rd I thought UNH was in a bit of trouble?
Felt we moved the puck and were able to get out of the zone ok; Maine had a decent forecheck going but I was happy with skating it out and putting shots on net. 'Course those shots have to go in and we will need to generate some offense would like to see if that happens tonight. Thought Maine's Thiessen (sp) was strong in net and wonder if TyT gets the nod for tonight. I'm fine with Robinson's performance. What did people think about the 3 on 3 and the shootout for OT ?I'm just here for the hockey...

Crookshank looked like a player who was on a mission last night and was at another level. Unfortunately the mission was to hit the Blackbear on the goalie
I thought the first two PP looked good and different. Cycling high and low moving just north luck. The last 5 had the stale old two high three across goal line. 0-7 is where the game was lost.
What I found dreadful to the point it was laughable was the 3 on 3 OT. It’s not a player or talent issue but a Whit issue and the big ice. It is too slow. Watching guys enter the zone not having a lane and retreating back to your own zone is unwatchable.
Currently 4th in the standings.... though it’s hard to tell since the hockey east page isn’t updated. Yes league page is a mess

Most importantly, hurrah for hockey! Like with the Red Sox, the ability to grouse about a bad team is a luxury we should all appreciate. That is not to suggest UNH is a bad team, just that for a transitional year, we can look at the pluses without expecting too much.
* I was impressed with the puck movement, as they were easily able to exit the zone, and not just by the Gildon breakout. If they can do that all year they'll be well suited to challenge every game. Was that a function of Maine's weakness? We'll see against the better teams.
* On that point, UNH had little zone time to defend against. Maine never cycled or got the puck pinned down low.
* I'd say offensive skills on D is lacking, so seeing Reid handle the puck with good awareness and puck skills was nice. His lack offensive stats in junior was a question in my mind, but the one game sample was positive. Kalle had that nice rush, but overall the D made smart plays with little need for individual rushes.
* As noted, Crookshank was a step above in generating chances.
* Not a lot of movement on the powerplay, as they had the umbrella but the few cross-ice passes were to Grasso, who is not a shooter.
* For the 3-on-3, I love it. Up and down the ice. You feel great with the 2 on 1 your way, but then it turns right around for the same sort of opportunity. Leaving the zone to regroup is a thing, not just for the Wit.The Souza record:

Serious question: if the game goes into the book as a tie (as it apparently does on both the HEA and USCHO websites), then what exactly is the purpose of the shootout at the end?
Rhetorical question: UMaine looked like a one-line team last night ... so how is it that, after finally taking a lead after 50+ minutes, and UMaine's lone (1) dangerous forward line out on the ice ... UNH allows multiple forwards (I forget which ones?) to get caught deep up ice, well behind the play, allowing the 3-on-2 breakout that resulted in UMaine's game-tying goal???
Lack of situational awareness, with the 'Cats on the ice, AND with their coaches, that's how.
I'll reserve further judgment until after tonight's game, but yeah ... plus ca change, etc.Sworn Enemy of the Perpetually Offended
