    At least BC is playing.

I guess an advantage to having an imaginary hockey season is we can imaginary rivalries, too. ;-)

UNH Hockey: From "Why Not Us' to "Woe is Us"

I've pretty much made my peace with 99% of the BC folks on this board over the last decade or so. The UNH-BC "thing" that used to exist is dead and buried, under the weight of four (4) NC's by Coach York against zero (0) NC's by Coach Umile. They won, we lost, it's obvious, and the old "thing" (can't say "rivalry" when you rarely if ever win the biggest games) died a long time ago. It was fun while BC was suffering with the "1949" taunt on title deprivation like UNH was/still is experiencing, but even if it still persisted after their 2001 title - since UNH was still threatening in their ultimately Sisyphean efforts to finally scale that peak - then BC's 3 more titles out of 5 seasons a decade ago (and UNH's slide into mediocrity) killed it stone dead.

But Jack still festers over the fact that once upon a time, I used to make fun of Coach York by pointing out how Jerry's speech sounded a lot like Elmer Fudd's (it did then, and FWIW it still does). Throw in some silly jokes about Father Monan (RIP) that were directed at BC alums WAY more than they were ever directed at Monan, and lots of other things that have long ago lost their context, and there was never going to be a road back into Jack's good graces for yours truly. Being a humorless git, on top of that very long memory, is not helping him, either.

It's almost like Jack is that proverbial Japanese soldier on some remote Pacific Island who hasn't gotten the memo yet that the war is over, and has been over for a long LONG time.

Figured I owed you an explanation on why he chose to seize on your post. Collateral damage. :-)
Thanks for the explanation but none needed. Someone always has to troll. Dwelling in the past especially this many years back in nuts.

Chuck, a creative idea, you are always thinking out of the box. I saw the Bruins story at the super spreader gym (not) last night and thought of your plan. Makes perfect sense for anyone with a POSITIVE attitude of lets get back to school, work, sports and life.

To take your idea for UNH playing outdoor hockey to get fans back AND get some revenue coming in, how about adding a nice little kicker? Hey Bruins! you wanna come up to Durham and play 20 games outdoors? Already have an outdoor rink setup, you can have 7,500 socially distanced fans in attendance, easy commute up Rt 95, etc. Unlike Chicken Charlie Parker, our state is pretty much open. Students aren't back until Feb 1st

              - UNH gets some money AND national exposure
              - UNH could charge for parking
              - Bruins get a novel idea that is turn-key ready
              - Bruins get ticket and ad revenues
              - Durham restaurants could set up for outdoor/indoor dining to help them stay afloat

Gotta think the restaurants along the way in Portsmouth/Newington/Dover (some even in Seabrook?) would get a nice boost from the folks coming up Rte. 95 for B's games, too.

Assuming neither Mayor Walsh nor Gov. "Parker" are gonna support fans at B's games at Fenway, you'd think a proposal from UNH along the lines of our ideas here would at least be compelling to the B's, if they want fans in the stands. The B's would probably be in far better position to secure the necessary plant and equipment to defray some/most of the cost to UNH.

And even if it all came to nothing, there's still positive PR to be had for UNH for putting it out there (plus the UNH games, and maybe some other college or HS hockey games/events). Heck, with no Beanpot this year, let's have our own, play it up big, too.

Instead of chatting this all up with our Gov, BS35+infinity will "gift" him a Sununu cardboard cutout ...

I am now having second thoughts on the cardboard cut outs, after watching NESN pretty much ignore them in the BC - PC game tonight.

He's made a lot of these mistakes (Keene NH is not "Vermont", etc. ad nauseum), but most are ignored by the ever-fawning liberal media.

                          • Is it possible to try to keep this board on the subject of hockey rather than politics?

Who is talking politics? Chuck and I gave a way for UNH to gain some great PR traction for the University, a path to revenue for themselves and the Bruins, a path to revenue for businesses in Durham and the seacoast, and a fun means for UNH athletes to play memorable hockey in the middle of dismal days. Then to give some relevancy on why the Bruins could play an outdoor game in Massachusetts but not gain any revenue by admitting paying customers (see NE Patriots), Chuck filled in the back story information on why I referred to the name of the MA governor as Parker, and not Baker. Sounds like we are talking hockey to me.

To get COLLEGE HOCKEY back on track, we need more people like Chuck and others to continue to give creative reasons why we CAN play hockey, rather than why we shouldn't. At last check, very few college athletes, if any, have died from Corona. Certainly many, many other athletes have perished from various diseases, afflictions, accidents, etc. This is THEIR time, let's find a way for them to have it.

Last time I checked, you're free to add whatever hockey content you'd like to.

So take your pick ... discuss the season to date? Discuss last weekend's game(s)? Next weekend's opponent? Adjustments to the forward lines and/or defensive pairings? Robinson or Taylor? Favorite first year player(s) to date? Latest on injuries? How's the rest of the league looking? There's a whole bunch of suggestions, slugger ... now, go show us how it's done, OK?

Better yet - give the AD a call. Maybe he'll listen if it's from you? Nothing else seems to be working.

I think all of us would prefer some real hockey talk right about now. Let's try this ... a weekend series coming up in Orono, our masterful next-level AD has managed to defer a killer opening two weekends' schedule, and now UNH has a stretch of very winnable games (on paper anyway) coming up. Who wants to chime in with their predictions for this weekend?

                                (1) UNH sweeps
                                (2) UNH takes 3 points/2 games
                                (3) Split series - one or two games
                                (4) UMO takes 3 points/2 games
                                (5) UMO sweeps
                                (6) Both games "postponed"
                                (7) Saturday only "postponed"
                                (8) Sunday only "postponed"

                                Heart says (1) ... mind says (6).
