  • Looks like we will be 3 players down for the finish of the regular season- Beniers and Brisson will be on Team USA for the Olympics, and CHN is reporting Owen Powers will be on Team Canada- although that's not on the mgobule site.

So be ready to face more abuse here for players being gone.... Although, I'm sure Michigan is welcoming the attention. Clicks on sites are always good for advertising.

Justified or not, you won't get abuse for players being gone. You'll get abuse if the team cancels more games.

        • Nice to sweep, but we continue to struggle in our D zone with just a little pressure. And PSU really pressed both defensemen all night. It was frustrating to see them make feeble passes like that, and just turn the puck over. But we managed to come back and win the game.

            2 things
            1. - Team Canada will be announcing their roster on Monday, Jan. 24. Power is a lock. I would not be surprised to see Johnson also make the team for a total of 4 current Wolverines.
            2. - The Olympics are done Feb. 22. We will still have the at Notre Dame series the following weekend. Then the B1G playoffs start the week after that.

            Section 3 (formerly 6, before that "F")
            Row 1
            Seats 6 & 7
Same seats since '93 - at the blue line on the glass

            9 NCAA Titles: '48, '51, '52, '53, '55, ''56, '64, '96, '98

            • Man, it's getting old watching our team take so many penalties. And it seems that we are taking a major every single game.

But if every team in the B1G played like Minnesota, every game would be so much fun to watch.

That major penalty call was weak. Even the broadcast made comment on that. A penalty, yes. But NOT a major. Okay, his head DID make contact with the boards but he was not driven into them and it was more a brush across the boards due to the way he fell rather than directly into them.

In the face of the non-major at the end of the game last night, that call looks even worse. That was from behind, directly into the boards- far more direct than our call the night before. And both announcers figured it was a major, and it was bad that a major with just a few min left should be an extended penalty the next game...

                  • Looks like Johnson is a reserve for Team Canada.

4 Wolverines on the USA roster, with former players Strauss Mann and Steve Kampfer joining current players Beniers and Brisson.

We'll be missing Powers and Johnson as soon as this weekend, I saw something about team Canada doing a training camp in Davos leading up to the Olympics. Couldn't find anything on USA, so not sure how soon those players will go.

Games vs. a 8-15-3 Wisconsin team will hopefully be a way to ease into playing with a less stacked roster.

This simply just confirms what most of the hockey world already knew... but now it is in writing.

"With two weeks off and only three days to prepare, the uncertainty of COVID, raised mental health concerns, the increased risk for potential injuries..."

Marv could make those excuses for every game on the schedule for the last two plus seasons and he certainly hit all the hot button topics trying to make his case. He makes his players out be a D-III level club team that can't deal with the daily grind of being a D-I hockey player. With the number of NHL drafted guys on that roster, that's embarrassing to throw his team under the bus by making them look soft/weak to get the outcome he wanted.

In the end nothing will happen because they were the first to try a stunt like this, but I expect some wording from the NCAA ice hockey committee in the offseason to address this kind of tactic. When the NCAA tourney is set by a formula, this kind of manipulation of the system better not be allowed going forward.

Going forward, there is no reason for Michigan to participate in the GLI again. The tourney doesn't need them and they clearly don't want to be there. The hockey team can sit at home for a month and watch their football and basketball teams on TV while they address their severe "mental health concerns..." that prevent them from playing hockey games.

Easiest solution is to count those games as a loss anyway in the pairwise - keeping the selection formula driven and giving teams incentives to play whenever possible.

                            • This will be interesting- the odd part is the allegations for COVID last spring, when the team pulled out of the tournament anyway.

                              • I’m a little sad about this whole situation… judging by the Twitter mob coming after MI hockey, the whole program is about to be burned to the ground. The details as to the “toxic culture” seem a little too vague for the conviction.
