My comment about looking like a Gendron team might have been a little bit harsh. And I do still think the right man is behind the bench, something Ive been consistent about for quite a while. But another thing that Ive been consistent about for a long time is wanting to see the amount of penalties come down significantly, and though the numbers say they have, it dosen't always feel like it. I would be genuinely curious to know how many majors Maine has against them, and where that ranks both in HEA and nationally, because it seems like Maine gets a lot of majors. I've also thought that the team defense should be an area we look to for improvement, as that's Barr's background as a coach and an area I feel he's recruited heavily. And again, the numbers on average say they have, but watching them often feels like they rely on Ostman quite a lot, and when he isn't on or in the net they struggle. Clearly it wasn't a universal opinion, but I thought they were wretched for 38 minutes of last Friday's game against BU. And while the Terriers are a great team of course, a GAA of 7.00 in one weekend is kind of not awesome, regardless of opponent. And they're still home ice merchants that struggle on the road. Tonight was a very volatile game, but they got the job done in the end which is what matters most. They're on the way up, but Ive been frustrated watching them lately.

Missed the game. Glad they won. Red never beat PC but not sure where PC is ranked this year compared to past teams which were powerhouses. Either way you play the games on the schedule and a win is great. Hopefully they can do it again tonightI swear there ain't no heaven but I pray there ain't no hell.

Red and Sway beat PC the last game of the 19/20 shortened covid season, 1-0. Great game in the Alfond. Last time Sway was in net for us.
Beat PC during that weird covid season and 18/19 season.
Two wins against PC in 11/12 under Whitehead.Last edited by NorthMike; 01-28-2023, 06:45 AM.

3-18-0 vs Providence in the previous regime for those keeping score at home
Maine Hockey: I want to believe
43-21-4 (.662) in games I attended over 4 years as a student
104-47-14 (.669) in that time
3x FROZEN FOUR
11-20-2 in games I've attended since. (2-2-1 under Red)

I dont know this year I feel like these refs are calling things more so against us.
Normally dont bother to comment but Ive seen alot the other teams are getting away with, it seems so anyway.

Quality win considering they didn’t play their best game. The effort was consistent as usual and they’re finishing more of their chances.
The penalties are concerning, especially the majors. Luckily Poisson will be back tonight. I thought KKO had his best game in a while in the absence of Poisson and it looked like he got a lot of ice time as the game went on.
Breen finally had that game where he took over, the second period was all him. I also thought Renwick and Henbrant played great. Ostman has been great this whole year, I don’t think he’s a danger to leave early but we’re going to be really lucky having him between the pipes next year.
Playing with house money tonight so let’s see if we can pull off a sweep.

Maine did not play a great game but still managed a win against a ranked opponent. Of course you want consistency, but when you can still win despite not playing well, that's a sign of improvement too.

Congrats to Maine for a win! Maine tried to give it away on many occasions. Highly unlikely Maine would have a high winning percentage if playing that way on a regular basis. They were somewhat lucky this time. Ostman really preserved the win and Maine's defense played well overall.

Crosby probably wouldn't even be on BC's top two lines next year

I think Mike Tuell summed it up well at the end of the game last night “Maine played a great 20 minutes and tonight that was good enough for the win”
And although not a top 10 defense, they look 100 times better than they have over the last decade.

Again, Maine was physical (which they normally aren't with PC), they seemed to control play most of the night and were fast and hard on the puck. Ostman didnt steal this game, he wasnt tested all that much. Yeah the last minute of play was scary but that's a ranked team pressing hard with a 6 on 5 or 6 on 4 advantage. Does Maine take too many penaltys? Maybe and maybe not. If they are non lazy penaltys I can live with it. Would rather see them aggressive and take a few than sit back and get scored on. How nice would a sweep be, eh ?I believe in equality of effort. In life, in hockey in everything.
