Guess we can now start turning over one card a day from the deck?

This number worn only by one former player in RPI hockey history.

I hope that we are now playing with just one deck.

The ice started going in on Monday, and they'll start hitting the ice next week. Outside of that, it was mostly talking about the team and goals which I'll summarize below.

Coach Smith said towards the beginning "we believe we can win the ECAC championship this season". He also said the goals for the season are another top 4 finish, then getting to Lake Placid, then an ECAC championship, then a national championship. Seemed like once they hit one goal, they'll move onto the next one on the list. He said the biggest challenge is to maintain an elite culture and environment to make sure they’re winning games. The staff thinks the culture and team is in a good place despite all the departures. They’re going to be working on the culture a lot leading up to the start of the season, and he thinks that it will all click by the end of the Alaska trip at the absolute latest. He hopes it’s all clicking by the first game, but they’ll be patient. They hope that the culture clicks early on, so they get on a roll sooner than later
Appreciate the optimism from DS on belief they can win the ECAC this year. If it happens he should win coach of the year nationally.

A lot of talent and leadership has left the program via graduation or by choice since March of ‘20. DS has a lot of work to do with a very young roster and a lot of question marks at the goaltending position.

I guess we will all see how this unfolds very soon!!

Took me a while to process and digest this email and ask the appropriate questions.

                1) Who issued this edict? Who composed it? Who did they compose it for? Why was it not sent from the office of the source directly? Why was box office staff used as body shields for whoever wanted this email sent? Real guts. Real leadership. Anyone who even remotely knows or has even met box office staff would find it utterly unbelievable that they would be the source of this particular power and control ego trip. Words that do not apply to either box office staff or the overwhelming majority of athletic department staff are arrogant, pompous, obnoxious, vain, cruel, persecuting, distasteful, verbose and show off. However, those labels all apply to other segments of the institution and, in all probability, it is one of those segments who really sent this email.

                2) Why would anyone willing to fork up $260 and possibly another $65 for parking but are not allowed to do it in person just automatically assume that you will be allowed in the building when the time comes for them to fork over the product that was paid for? Why would anyone just assume that if the product is delivered at all, it will be delivered without your being made to literally stand on your head, jump through hoops, chase carrots on a stick or chase your own tail in order to receive the product? Just when is anyone going to be made aware of any "requirements" they have to comply with in order to receive a product they already paid for well prior to any "requirements" being stated? Will they be stated only after payment is processed? What if whenever the "requirements" are stated payers find them totally unacceptable? Will refund be issued upon request? Issuance of refunds these days at that place were previously addresses quite articulately by one VBK. This has buyer beware written all over it.

                3) Of course, this is all about "safety", the "well being of the community" and the ever present "overabundance of caution". Only a "fool" could believe it is about ego, power and control as opposed to any "genuine" concern for safety and well being. Query from such an obvious "fool". Why does one particular game in the season ticket package involve paying for a game being played in an inner city whose own mayor declared a state of emergency just a couple of weeks ago on account of the out of control street violence in that city's downtown areas? The present violence is literally setting records for shootings and murders and at least a bit of it has occurred within eyesight of the particular arena. Sure sounds like "concern" for safety and well being to me instead of an out and out money grab. In the real world a significant number of the season ticket holders, especially those that qualify as seniors, have never been frequent visitors to the area and do not even attend the game.

All very good points! With regards to the "requirements", the box office and field house staff don't even know what those "requirements" will be because the higher ups haven't told them. How is the staff supposed to be prepared for the women's season in a month when they're going to get absolutely zero advance notice?

Met him today at the golf course along with about a dozen other players. He is definitely 6’6 and he shoots left handed. They were practicing this morning with Coach Smith at an ice rink in Clifton Park (about 15 miles from HFH for those who don’t know) while the ice is going in. They told me that coach worked them hard and they were a little late getting to the course. Team looks in very good spirits.

Institute athletic teams will participate in intercollegiate athletics for NCAA programs during the 2021-2022 academic year. External spectators will not be permitted at this time. The Institute will continue to confer with the NCAA, the ECAC, and the Liberty League regarding subsequent decisions. Our recreation and intramural programs will be in complete alignment with federal, state, county, and institutional health and safety policies and protocols for testing, tracing, tracking, treatment, and quarantine or isolation as necessary.

RB- Is it just me, or has your daily posting suddenly lost color and become very pale? Started with the August 12th posting. Usually a sudden paleness can indicate illness so hope all is OK.
