  • Suter got his world rocked yesterday. Not following the NHL the last 2 seasons, is he still worth the big money he signed for with the Wild?

Someone will get a fifth defenseman, who can skate second pair during injuries to others, for a million bucks.

Is he today worth the 2012 deal. No.

      • He’s still very good and a contributor, but not at that cap hit. I’m a Wild fan, so I’ve taken this with a requisite ambivalence.

Feel similar about Parise, albeit with zero Alma mater affection.
If you want to be a BADGER, just come along with me

        BRING BACK PAT RICHTER!!!

At his graduation ceremony from the U of Minnesota, my cousin got a keychain. When asked what UW gave her for graduation, my sister said, "A degree from a University that matters."

Canned music is a pathetic waste of your time.

        • I wonder how ticket sales will be this year after the pandemic. Maybe it will go up because people are ready to congregate again? Or has Badger hockey interest dropped even more?

I'm gonna guess the KC is half empty. Or half full for the optimistic type.

I think it will be about the same or a little better than the 19-20 campaign. They did have a great year last year and CC won the Hobey, so for the kinda casual/kinda serious in betweener that might get them to bite. The economy is crushing it, so people have extraneous funds to blow on tickets. People are hockey starved. C19 fears may keep some away, but overall I think all the the +'s outweigh the -'s.

            • Interesting thoughts on Ceulemans from SI:

"When you think of an offensive defenseman coming out of the Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Jr. A League, your mind automatically goes to Cale Makar. And while there are some similarities between Ceulemans and Makar, it doesn’t look at this point like Ceulemans will rise to Makar’s level, largely because that’s a ridiculously high standard.

“He’s a bit of a polarizing guy,” said one scout. “I think it’s going to be hard for him to play that unstructured as he moves up. When Makar played, it was with structure. Ceulemans’ offense is created by his tools, a high-level skater, good size, good skills. His hockey sense has much less to do with his offense than other things.”

Other scouts are more optimistic, pointing to how well Ceulemans adapted to the higher level of play at the world under-18s. And he’ll likely improve defensively when he plays next season at Wisconsin. “Corson in junior looks nothing like he does (at the worlds),” said another scout. “In junior, he has no conscience. This tournament will benefit him because he’s been more involved defensively, and I think this will show that he can take coaching.”
              ----------------------

Reading "In junior, he has no conscience", makes me extremely concerned seeing as we all saw Watts low conscience D looked like the last few years prior to last year and it was not pretty. But if he wants to play in and stick in the NHL, he'll have to develop that conscience and it reads like he did that in the World Jr's. I am excited to see his impact on the PP. I think he seems like a 2 year college guy at minimum.

I would say he’s worth around ~ $4m in cap hit at the moment. He’s a second pair LHD that is trending downwards as he gets older.

The economy is crushing it, but inflation is definitely going to hit hard. Hopefully that does not include an increase in ticket prices. Does the University have a deficit to overcome over the last 1.5 years?

                  • Draft is this weekend looks like at least 5 could get selected....
                    Skaters
                    14 – Corson Ceulemans (D)
                    147 – Daniel Laatsch (D)
                    152 – Caden Brown (F)
                    211 – Jake Martin (D)

                    Goaltenders
                    13 – Cameron Rowe

I would not be surprised if Kehrer was drafted, he was phenomenal last season. Also a draft note from reading the WSJ; Cujo was never drafted? Seriously? I remember that Cujo was a sought after recruit.

                    • So only 2 draftees this time around, a first and seventh rounder. I am excited to see the lads continue the play the type of hockey they played last year, that is a winning formula.

It could make for some interesting play though.

I got tickets again this year, so I will be going. I like the weekend after Thanksgiving and not opening weekend (deer huting that is). Screw shopping, watch hockey!

I for one am STARVED for seeing hockey games in person. Hopefully some men's women's double headers will work out once the women's schedule is pieced into the puzzle. At any rate the car will be on rails to Lot 91 or the Fedex/Kinkos parking lots.
