This was the only game which Smolinski has played for the Storm so far this season. He played 3 games for them a year ago.

Edit: Interestingly, he also played in Janesville's (Itagaki's team) exhibition games vs the USNTDP 17U team recently and scored a goal. https://***********/JanesvilleJets1/...76985385771015 The Storm game was more recent.

    • FWIW, both Elite Prospects and Neutral Zone list Smolinski as a 2022 recruit. I think that I will use that the next time i post the list. As I have written several times no one is sure since we don't know which players will leae and which will stay for an extra year.

      • 2022 is more like it since on Post #465 you had him as a 2003 recruit, which would have made him the youngest ever RPI player...

Huh? He is listed as 2023 there. Conceivably I originally wrote 2003 and changed that in the early morning.

Sons of Jason Muzzati Bryan Smolinski Brian Dubinsky all committed to RPI? That's quite a group for old school college hockey fans.
And RPI has Ken Klee's (BGSU) son on their roster as well as Patric Kjellberg's son, but PK didn't go to college.

I wonder if there is significance to the fact that Jason Muzzatti and Bryan Smolinski were teammates at MSU.

Someone asked about Loris Muzzatti when Sutter Muzzatti committed.

Sutter Muzzatti's uncle, Loris, was an RPI player in 70s

The years the men's recruits are listed as committed for are not necessarily accurate.
The dates on which some of the women are listed as committing on may be considerably after the actual dates.
I am assuming that Neutral Zone regards their Star ratings as public because they often tweet them with committals.

                              STORM DEFENSEMAN COMMITS TO RPI

Kearney, NE. – Tri-City Storm defenseman Max Smolinski has recently announced a commitment to play college hockey at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Smolinski has appeared in one game this season for the Storm and made his USHL debut as an affiliate list callup on October 26th, 2019 in Tri-City’s 3-2 overtime win against the Omaha Lancers.

Max Smolinski, 17, of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan was drafted 60th overall in the 4th Round of the 2019 USHL Phase I draft and made his USHL debut during the 2019-2020 regular season as an affiliate list callup. Prior to joining the Storm, Smolinski skated for the Little Caesars youth program in Detroit, MI. He also previously played for the Honeybaked youth program in Detroit, MI. Smolinski scored eight goals and registered fifteen assists in forty-nine games played for the Little Caesars 16U AAA team during the 2019-2020 season. He netted six goals and recorded thirty-two assists in seventy-two games played for Little Caesars 16U during the 2018-2019 season. Smolinski has appeared in four career games with the Storm.

RPI was definitely the right place for me. Not only are Dave Smith, Chuck Weber, and Scott Moser great coaches with so much knowledge of the game, but they are also very genuine and high character people, which for me, spoke volumes about the RPI culture. The program has a team-first and hardworking identity that we have here in Tri-City, and I think that will make my transition to college hockey much easier. Aside from hockey, RPI is also a fantastic school that will provide me with an excellent education that I can use for the rest of my life. I feel that RPI is the best place for me to not only grow as a hockey player, but also as a person. Playing college hockey has always been a dream of mine. I think it is so special to have the chance to play for a school while also being able to get an education, especially at such a high caliber school like RPI. I cannot thank my family, billet family, past coaches, and current coaches at Tri-City enough for all they have done for me thus far. I certainly would not be the person I am without all of their help and sacrifice. Throughout this entire season, I have really been focusing on my skating. Skating has become such an important skill and can help me become a better player. We as hockey players always try to improve our overall game. I am using this time to work in the weight room and using video to improve and play at a faster pace in an older league. I have been learning to make strong and confident decisions and being strong defensively. Being strong defensively will also allow me to make an impact in the offensive zone. Tri-City has been a great place for me to grow and develop in my endeavor to get to the next level.” - Defenseman Max Smolinski

We’re extremely proud of Max and happy for him and his family. RPI is getting a great hockey player and an even better person. Max is committed to getting better every day and has an enthusiasm and love for the game that is infectious”- President of Hockey Operations/Head Coach Anthony Noreen
