Okay. It has come to my attention that vicb will not be running the ECAC Pick the Standings contest this year, and I just couldn't let it die. You may know me from the weekly RPI Pick-to-Click game and the annual ECAC Projected Standings post. As long as it's okay with vicb, I'll handle running this contest this year. I know this is coming with very short notice, but hopefully we'll still be able to get a good turnout before the ECAC schedule starts this Friday.
So here we go again! One final cheer for jstadts for winning last year's contest, and one final jeer to Rjm7272 for keeping me from taking the bottom spot. As always, the contest is easy. Pick the ECAC Standings at the end of the 2017-18 season in order from 1-12 (no ties). Playoff seedings determine the position of the teams in case of a regular season tie. I'm changing things ever so slightly with how scores will appear, though the mechanics are the same in the end. Rather than a simple square of the distance between your prediction and the actual standings, I'm going to report the Spearman's rank correlation coefficient between each participant's predictions and the real standings. This change is just because I am difficult (and if people really complain, I can report both metrics). In the end, all scores will range between 1 and -1 (rather than between 0 and 572), and the CLOSEST TO 1 WINS. You have until the puck drops on the first ECAC contests (RPI at Union/Brown at Yale; Friday, 27 October at 7 PM EDT) to get your picks in.
Tie breakers are:
Pick correctly the ECACHL Regular Season Champ.
Have the most teams in the correct order of finish.
Have the most top 6 teams in the correct order of finish.
I will flip a coin.
You can change your picks at any time up till the drop of the puck of the first league game, however DO NOT EDIT THE ORIGINAL PICKS . Just put up a new post with your change.
Here are the past winners and biggest losers since 2002:
I'll post updates each week so everyone can keep track of their standing as the year progresses. Good luck everyone!
