Re: Brothers on NCAA D1 teams

UMass currently has the Marcou brothers, James and Mike. James is the older, though shorter, brother. While he has obviously gotten all the press for his playmaking skills Mike has developed into a dependable defenseman.

Past brothers for the Minutemen include the Warners, Mike and Tim, and the Turners, Tim and Jeff. Tim Warner was mostly a backup goaltender while older brother Mike Warner a regularly used grinder. Tim Turner, the younger of the two, was one of the better scorers in UMass history.

Ferris had the Sergott brothers, Keith and Ken, in the 90s. Keith is now a CCHA ref (and really shouldn't be reffing his alma mater).

In the early 2000s Ferris had the McIver brothers, Chad and Derrick. Chad was captain of the '02 team.

Troy Milam was Ferris' captain on the '03 championship team, and his younger brother Jamie played for Northern. Their mom, being the good mom she was, had a jersey, one side Ferris, the other NMU. I wonder what ever happened to the 'other' jersey?

Daniel Winnink played for UNH in the early 2000s while his brother, Andrew played for Ferris. I think Daniel is still in the NHL.

Notre Dame had the Fairholm brothers, the Brownshidle brothers, the Byers brothers and a pair of Bankoskes. A couple of guys quickly come to mind who played for the Irish and had brothers at other D-1 schools. Kevin Deeth, still playing at Notre Dame has a brother, Brian, who played at Northeastern, and Steve Schneider who had a brother with a nickname like Buzz or something like that who played for Minnesota.

Notre Dame has two others currently on the team whose brothers play/played elsewhere -

Kyle Murphy - younger brother of BC Eagle forward Ryan and BC student manager extraordinaire Justin.

Ryan Guentzel - brother of CC's Gabe and son of Mike.

Re: Brothers on NCAA D1 teams

Alaska Fairbanks has had two sets of brothers on the team each of the last four years. Dion and Brandon Knelsen have skated with Dustin and Bryant Molle for the last three years, and skated with Aaron and Jeff Lee four years ago.

I believe the 2007-08 season started with the Knelsen, Molle, and the Lee brothers all skating together. Jeff Lee was probably Doc’s first casualty.

Re: Brothers on NCAA D1 teams

Maine HAD three pretty good brothers but with NO Overlap
                Paul 92 - 94
                Steve 95 - 99
                Martin 99 - 03

the eldest probably had the most talent.

Oh! I forgot to mention their last name ... Kariya

Besides the Davises, Miami has had Pat and Tim Leahy and Jaan and Scott Luik who played together. Not sure but I think both Harkins brothers (Todd and I can't remember the other name) played together, but couldbe wrong about that. On the current team, Reilly Smith is the younger brother of Brendan Smith of Wisconsin.

Although Nate Davis got the attention, Matt Davis was a heck of a good player for Miami.

Colin was a the far better player as the older brother. They also had Greg Collins who was the younger brother of BC's Chris Collins. Chris(older) was an all-american at BC while Greg was mostly a checking line player for UNH. James van Riemsdyk just left UNH after his sophomore year to sign with Philly and has had a solid rookie campaign. His younger brother, Trevor just committed to UNH for the fall of 2011 and is far less heralded than his older brother. Jay Camper, younger brother of Miami's Carter Camper, is also committed to UNH.
Currently playing for UNH with brothers who have also played in the ncaa are Matt Campanale (brother Chris just finished playing for AIC, Scott Pavelski (brother Joe played for Wisconsin), Blake Kessel (brother Phil played for Minnesota).
We also just missed out on the Yandle brothers, Brian and Keith. Of course, it looks like Keith was NHL ready. Having a very productive year for the Coyotes, including two goals against Detroit the other night.

Beyond the Hemingways and the Haydars, a quick look at the media guide shows four other sets of brothers who played at UNH, although not together:
Andy Brickley '82 - All American, 11 years in the NHL, NHL analyst
Quintin Brickley '88 - 77 career points on some not so good UNH teams
Mike Burkhart '75 - UNH captain, pretty good defensive centerman
Scott Burkhart '81 - 6-13-19 in parts of two seasons
Gordie Clark '74 - UNH's first great, great player, All-American, cup of coffee in the NHL, NHL executive today. A god when I was a student
Gary Clark '80 - played just one season for UNH, from what I remember he was wicked homesick
Patrick Foley '04 - two time UNH captain, not productive but, from all reports, very inspirational in the locker room. Some rumblings of controversy though.
Brian Foley '06 - got into three games over three years. I remember one was when Umile suspended 8 guys after a Red Sox rally went sour. Nice kid from a solid family.

Interesting stuff. I am still waiting for UNH's first father/son combination. Have had a few chances over the years with Bill Beaney's kid (Princeton), Bruce Crowder (UMass & NU), Jon Fontas (Lowell) and Ralph Cox (Brown), but for whatever reason (it's usually a talent issue, or maybe the kid wants nothing to do with following in dad's footsteps), it hasn't happened.

                      Nice topic.

I'm not sure if anybody has mentioned former UND players Jordan and Zach Parise. Zach played two years before jumping to the professional level and is currently playing for the New Jersey Devils, and will be on the Olympic team. Jordan left school after his junior year, but has so far not found an NHL home, but played for Lowell in the AHL for about 2 years among other teams. He was a pretty solid starting goaltender for the Sioux for about 2+ years.

St Lawrence has had its share of brothers over the years.

                              Lappin's
                              Hurlbut's

                              Flanagan's

What's the record for most brothers to play at a school? not necessarily on the same team...

I believe all the Lundeens at Wisconsin (4 of them) were brothers. Any other groups of 4 or more?
