Acceptance letters tell students they must maintain a certain GPA, etc. Kids on academic scholarships have to maintain a certain GPA. What’s the difference? There is none except average students aren’t recognizable in media, school athletic department bios, etc.

Do schools generally accept students and/or offer them academic scholarships, have the students accept, then come back in the spring/summer and tell them that they are no longer welcome because the school accepted too many students? Especially as the school shuffles to make room for a smarter student that's suddenly interested (Wahlstrom)?

Like I said, everybody does it (lord knows Northeastern has a couple of fun years coming up). It isn't like it's just BC that people complain about online. Vermont has been rightfully lambasted on a yearly basis for it for a few years running now. UMass was too, although that came with the caveat of a new coach and staff. Michigan is the new hot team to complain about under Pearson. NU's day of reckoning is fast approaching. But just because it's the hot new recruiting method doesn't mean we have to decide it's okay.

If coaches weren't allowed to recruit kids until a reasonable age, that would help.

They can’t help,it having to recruit against not only other schools but professional leagues as well. Need to get interest early

Imagine living in a universe where a list contains nothing but kids who were either previously on the roster and are no longer on said roster or who were committed to come in this fall and instead ended up joining lesser programs over the summer, and saying this list isn't a list of kids who were forced out. Talk about fake news.

Everybody overcommits these days, there's no reason to act like you have no idea about it. When you have an entire graduating class that just plain doesn't exist, your options are either to bring in extra players immediately to fill the hole and get rid of some of them in a couple of years to even the numbers back out, or to run a thin roster for a couple of years until that missing class gets phased out. Your team chose option A. Everybody knows they chose option A. This isn't a secret. Just because Carreau was mentioned on twitter a few months ago or someone else actually happened during last season doesn't suddenly make them not exist, they're still a part of what happened. Nobody said "BC cut six kids on Today, the 21st day of September 2018."

Do you really think BC or BU recruiting would suffer if they had to wait until a kid was 16 to talk to him? This whole concept of having to talk to kids when they are 13 or 14, much less garnering a commitment, is a farce.

If kids knew the above rule existed (no talk until 16), the amount of losses to MJ would be minimal and I would argue, schools would be better off because they would have much more sound recruits (as opposed to today when they have to deal with the volatility of kids committing early to them and switching to MJ.....because the commitment was hollow to begin - how could it be characterized any other way when it comes from a 14 year old???).

Anyone who puts any stock in a commit for someone coming in 2022 is delusional! But hey, it must be really cool for Charlie Leddy and Devin Kaplan to be able to wear their BC & BU gear to high school or middle school??!!

The whole thing has gotten out of control. Programs trying to one up each other and find the next great prospect which keeps pushing these verbal commitments to younger ages. Parents who think their son needs to commit at an early age in order to secure a scholarship 5 years down the line. And people pretend to be upset when a kid doesn't develop like everyone thought they would and programs then find better options. Or the unthinkable happens...a teenager ends up changing his mind and sees a better option than the school they committed to! Because teenagers never change their mind and know at a young age exactly what they want to do.

If the kid is good at hockey, someone will find him. Stop pressuring kids to commit, let them mature and enjoy playing hockey. Somehow college hockey survived without this recent phenomenon for years. Verbal commitments mean nothing to me...from both ends. From the player's perspective and from the program's perspective. If a player changes his mind on you, that's the risk you take. And if parents are telling their kid once they commit at age 14 that they have nothing to worry about and that they will 100% be attending the school they committed to...sorry, that's naive. Everyone involved should understand this by now. There are no surprises with this stuff. Is it a great system? Hell no. But until an age restriction is implemented it's the system we have.

you are certainly not wrong.... but if you want to compete for that high end talent (with mj options) you have to be talking to them. and if one kid is being talked to, another who thinks he may be just as good is going to want attention as well. otherwise some other program will.

Was just grazing the schedule. While it's not a surprise, still strange only having two non conference home games. One being Bentley. The other, your marquee non conference game of the year...the home opener...on a Thursday night. Woof.

Also, a very strange end to the Hockey East regular season.You have BC playing at PC on a Thursday night and then those teams are done. Three games on that Friday night and then just one game Saturday night, BU at Maine. Merrimack isn't involved in the final weekend at all. They finish the previous Saturday night. I know part of the problem is having an odd number of teams but last year there were 4 games that Friday night and 5 that Saturday night. Is the league schedule simply not up to date on the Hockey East site? Thought all schedules were out now.

That last weekend is a new weekend created by eliminating the first round of the conference tournament. No games were originally scheduled there, teams basically moved matchups there as they saw convenient. Last year's "last weekend" you're comparing to is the March 2 weekend, which is also a little sparse on games, but less so.

Just used to a full slate of games the last Saturday of the regular season, will be weird seeing only one game.

Honestly they should make everyone wait until the kid is 16 or 17 to talk but 13 and 14 ???

Too early, let them grow and experience the world more and when they're upper classmen as juniors and seniors in high school, then talk.
