FS23 would you add 1 stat possibly without much trouble? Include # of seasons the program has been Div I.

I don't have that information readily available. As I noted before, I keep track based on games played as opposed to number of seasons. However, I don't think the information would be too difficult to put together. I don't have the extra time at the moment, but if someone wants to put together the information, I'll add it into the summaries.

#36 – Vermont Catamounts

Vermont came into the season with tempered expectations in the aftermath of a hazing scandal that shook the university community. Unsure of how the team would be able to bounce back from the loss of their senior leadership for the first few weekends of the season most expected a middle of the table finish in Hockey East. They lived up to those expectations, coming out to start the season hot, splitting with Clarkson and taking 3 points from Omaha. Through the rest of the season they won most of the games they were expected to win (big wins over BU and QU in late Nov early Dec, splitting with Providence, two ties with BC late in the year), but taking a combined one point from Notre Dame and Lowell set them back to the 6th spot in Hockey East. Freshman Stefanos Lekkas was the story of the season, stepping in for Senior Mike Santaguida, starting 33 games for the Catamounts. Looking towards next season, expectations remain similar, with hopes the losses of Mario Puskarich’s high flying offense and Brady Shaw’s senior leadership can adequately be filled by returning players. – UML Puck Hawk

#35 – Ohio State Buckeyes

The Buckeyes had a nice turnaround last season, finishing with a 21-12-6 record (including an impressive 13-2-3 road record), a #8 ranking earlier in the year and making the national tournament for the first time since ’09. Unfortunately they ran into a hot goalie and bowed out after a first round loss. The ’17-’18 season looks very promising as they return a lot of this year’s team and bring back alum J.B. Bittner (’02-’05) as assistant coach. There is also talk of building a new on-campus arena. – Siouxfaninseattle

There are a variety of reasons why Bemidji State's 2016-2017 campaign earned more points than Ohio State's in these rankings. Bemidji State won their conference, had a First-Team All-American, and had a Hobey Baker Finalist. The teams had similar records, but Ohio State had a slightly better strength of schedule and made the NCAA Tournament, losing its first game. Had Ohio State beaten Minnesota Duluth, they would likely have scored more points than Bemidji State. I would also note that BSU only scored about 1 more point than OSU...not really "so many" points in general, although for teams at this stage of the rankings, 1 point does represent a decent bump.

McNaughton Cup title is more valuable than making the NCAA as an at-large?

It depends on the team/season, but in general, a conference title is worth more than making the NCAA Tournament...although they usually do go together.

I would also note that BSU only scored about 1 more point than OSU...not really "so many" points in general..

Was referring to the points rank (17 vs. 11) for the season and not the total points. But thanks.

#34 – Brown Bears

Brown continued a long decline in 2016-17; for the last 5 years their win total decreased from 16 to 11, 8, 5, and this years' 4. The Bears lost in the first round of the ECAC tournament in two games to Quinnipiac. Brown had only 6 seniors, none of whom scored more than 7 points; in total they got 16 points from their seniors. Brown also started a freshman in net for most of the season, so they do not have significant losses to recover from. – drshoen

Even if Lowell wins Hockey East again next year, I don't think there's much chance of them passing NU without a Frozen Four or better run. There was a 7+ point gap between 33 and 32. Not that NU picked up many points this year, they had like 2-4 notable wins and a few notable ties, but the gap will keep them going for a little while.

So Lowell gained 6 points in 12-13 with similar results (no FF, but same number of All Americans, conference champs, tourni champs, etc.). With that in mind, I would say Lowell comfortably gains 4 points this year (will have to wait and see). Do that again with NU making no real headway and yeah it'll be passed by the end of next year

I doubt we win the league this year though, so NU is probably safe at 32 for another couple years.

Entering the season Lowell came in with one big question mark, goaltending. The River Hawks had suffered minimal losses to graduation in 2016, returning their entire defense corps from the previous season, but lost Senior transfer goaltender Kevin Boyle to graduation, leaving the crease wide open to two sophomores and two freshman (both drafted), who combined had 2 games of college hockey experience under their belts. An early injury to Freshman Garrett Metcalf gave Tyler Wall his chance in net and he ran with it, setting freshman wins record at 26. While the high flying squads of BU and PC were expected to finish at the top of the table with returning champs NU, Lowell was expected to be a tier below. Throughout the season, led by one of the top lines in the country (Smith, Gambardella, Edwardh combined 142 points) Lowell was able to consistently win games against all opponents. Their sweep of BC the final weekend of the season clinched their second Hockey East Regular season title, and three weeks later a dominating win over Notre Dame and a hard fought win over BC won Lowell their third Hockey East title in the past 5 years. In the NCAA tournament Lowell ran Cornell out of the building, but their run to the Frozen Four was halted when Notre Dame took revenge for Lowell’s dominance over the past 4 years at Notre Dame’s expense. Lowell loses their top D pairing, along with their top 2 scorers, so expectations are tempered going into this season. Lowell will surely remain competitive in Hockey East play, but their best chance at winning hardware this season will be if Tyler Wall is able to take a large step forward (similar to Boyle’s ’14-15 to ’15-16 jump). – UML Puck Hawk

If Lowell can maintain the track it has been on, they will be continue to rise in these rankings...and probably sooner than later. They've essentially tripled their points in the last 5 seasons...not too shabby.
