I've really let this thread go...but the interest seemed to dip doing it every season. However, for you, I will post the 2021-2022 end of season rankings this weekend. : p

I don't understand SCSU, PSU, BSU or OSU making the top 25...unless they're counting DII stuff for BSU but PSU makes no sense, same with OSU

It's literally just clickbait. This account is well-known for making dumb rankings that have enough viability to seem legit but are made to farm interactions. They make a lot of "Best ____ in the State" type graphics that are even more clickbaity than this or other things like this. Credit to them though because it works and gets people riled up

I understand that. That's why every time in came up I pretty much told those quoting to not give it the time of day, but it still made me wonder what was going on with these rankings. I've barely spent any time on USCHO fan forum in 4 years?

Yeah, my rankings are quite a bit different than those. : p

You can make an argument for SCSU and OSU in the Top 25. BSU for sure if you're counting DII. But Penn State? That makes zero sense.

In any event, I'll post my end of season 2021-2022 rankings tomorrow. Spoiler alert? Penn State is not in the Top 25!!!

UMass was a d2 school until.1996 and they have 2 final 4s with one win. Most other seasons in their D1 and D2 history they have sucked as they do this season

It was discussed in more detail in the original threads, but my formula is essentially an average of 6 different formulas that emphasis various different metrics/accomplishments. For example, one formula places more of an emphasis on NCAA National Championships (and to a lesser extent, success in the NCAA Tournament), while another formula looks more like an all-time RPI. The formulas are averaged together, and then I divide by 10 to make the point totals less burdensome to type out. : ) Overall, it factors in a wide variety of objective metrics that fans like to point to for why their program is great.

Now that the season is over, I'll be spending some time crunching the numbers. I have back-to-back trials in May, so it will likely be sometime this summer before I finish gathering all the data. However, here are my general thoughts on the likely changes:

1. Michigan will almost certainly overtake North Dakota to reclaim the #1 spot. UND had a relatively terrible season and probably will lose points. Michigan made the Frozen Four, had the Hobey Baker winner, and captured the B1G Tournament title. There won't be much separating the two, but the Wolverines will likely regain their edge heading into the 2023-2024 campaign.

2. It will be very close for the #3 spot between Denver and Minnesota. Both teams had tremendous regular seasons before faltering in the playoffs. However, historically, advancing to the title game is worth somewhere between about 15-20 points. While Denver has a decent lead (~9 points), and had a strong season, usually a first round NCAA Tournament exit doesn't equate to the 6-11 points the Pios will need to keep pace with the Gophers.

3. It will also be a tight race for the #5 spot between BC and BU. BU had a strong season, culminating in a Frozen Four birth, while the Eagles watched it all on TV. I'm guessing that 2-3 points (or less) will separate the two squads, with the Terriers perhaps reclaiming the #5 position.

4. Could Cornell jump back into the Top 10? The Big Red had a strong season, and nearly went back to the Frozen Four, while Maine struggled. Moreover, Quinnipiac winning their first title should help out the rest of the ECAC schools slightly. Will that be enough to overcome a ~4 point gap? We'll see.

5. How high will Quinnipiac move up? The Bobcats just completed one of the most dominant seasons in college hockey history (I anticipate a likely Top 25 season, but that is for my other thread ; ) ). They will certainly crack the Top 20 here, and could challenge up to about the 17 spot. Of course, Quinnipiac's jump could also very well put Union back at #26...which just seems right.

6. I don't expect much movement in the bottom half of the rankings. There will be small movements here and there, but nobody made any program-altering runs. Penn State may jump a few spots. But other than that, I don't--at least at first blush--see anybody moving more than maybe a spot or two.

7. We'll welcome Lindenwood and Stonehill to the rankings!
