Congrats to Kyle Bauman on signing a contract with the AHL's Ontario Reign. Interesting story on Kyle, who is from the Orlando, Florida area. After his last year of junior hockey, he hadn't landed a spot on a college roster, D-I or D-III. He was all set to go to school back home (Central Florida, I believe) when BSU called in August as they had a roster spot open up. Now, four years later, he is moving on to the AHL with a pro contract! Great story!

I've been tied up the last couple of days watching the Alexandria Cardinals at the Minnesota State Tournament ( runner up in Class A, took down Hermantown 6-1 in the semis). But there were two more signings.

Leo Fitzgerald signed with the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL.

Carter Struthers signed with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits of the ECHL.

How do we take the next step as a program? We obviously went through a bad period in the early 2010's and have done a very good job bouncing back from that and building back into a solid program. We have now made the playoffs 4 straight years and hosted three of the last 4 including winning the Macnaughton. The next step to me is to become a consistent NCAA tournament team. We were there before in the late 00's where we made 4 of 6 years. How do we get back there again? Is it realistic to expect that from this program?

                    Yes, it is realistic.

I think the first step is to get to the WCHA Championship game. That has to happen before talk about being a consistent NCAA team comes up.

The WCHA is a different beast the the old CHA was, so I don't think you can compare the run the Beavers had in that league of six, five or four teams, versus the current WCHA of 10 teams. The odds of making it were just better in the WCHA. Yes, they did make the NCAA that last year in the CHA as an at large bid, but all the others were as tournament champion of the CHA. So that leads me to believe that the Beavers need to become a consistent WCHA Tournament threat first.

The WCHA as a whole has to do a better job out of conference. This year the Beavers and the Mavericks were the only ones with winning records out of league. If the WCHA and the teams want to be taken seriously on the NCAA stage, that is a must to where there is consistent talk of the WCHA having two or more teams in the tournament.

Thanks Hatch_man. After I typed it, I thought about Tech and that I should go double check that. But, it got away from me since I was at work.

The Beaver Men have picked up two more verbals from recruits here recently.

Thanks for the good response. I agree and have just found myself very frustrated with the teams early exits in the playoffs the last few years.
