Let's try this. Instead of saying UNH football is D2, would you agree that they play in the second division?

Lil Chuckie - go read my post from 2:51pm yesterday, where I clearly state that. That has never been in question. (Even back a few months ago, when you refused to acknowledge that I said as much).

Run along now. I was serious in my last post - time to get back to some level of civility and hockey.

What I want to know is, what happened to Jacques "Rabbit" Pouriveau? I am sure that he is around here, somewhere.

Oh, I dunno why but I suspect he's lurking around here somewhere... Just a thought... On another note our Frosh Phenom Patrick Grasso earned his second consecutive Hockey East Rookie of the Month nod...woot!!!

I find this assault on Chuck quite amusing. Chuck, I suppose if you put yourself out there on a daily basis, opining on one subject or another, people are going to cherry pick your comments and fire away. I don't always defend Mr. Murray, he can be a bit delusional at times, but I really don't think he hates Marty. Hate is a pretty strong word. Perhaps dismissive of his aura of invincibility would be a better description, agree Chuck? Marty has brought a lot of the derision on himself, starting with his campaign to "clean up" the student section and eliminate "Black Betty" and other supposedly objectionable material. From there we went to L'Affaire McCloskey and the agonizing transfer of power from Umile to Souza. These latter two I will give Marty a pass on. I may not like the outcome of either decision, but it certainly is within his realm of administrative responsibilities to do whatever he deems necessary. The one thing that I will not let slide however is the cavalier way in which a $1 million dollar unrestricted gift, donated by the estate of a UNH research librarian, was used to purchase the new scoreboard at Cowell Stadium. Not only do I feel, as do many others, that the use of the money in this way disrespected this gentleman's life work, but the justification that the deceased became a football fan late in life and that's why UNH spent the money the way they did is well . . . . pick out the word. An exaggeration? Disingenuous? An outright lie? Marty doesn't like hard questions, ones that question his authority. To bad he wasn't asked when it came to this decision. You know, he gets squirmy and mealy mouthed when he has to answer them. And often times he doesn't but, instead, verbally slaps you on the head and says I am the authority here and what I say goes. Believe me, I know. More than anything, this is why I am dismissive of him and wish for his prompt exit from the University.

I think Chuck agrees with me here but let me say, Mr. Murray, bringing his wife into the discussion is not good form. And Chuck, St. A's and Bentley play D2 football. UNH plays FCS aka 1AA. Anybody who calls themselves a sports fan, particularly a college one, would know this. Cabeesh?

Thanks for teeing this up for me, Greg - saved me a lot of time. You've got a pretty accurate take on most of it ...

Hate IS a very strong word. Dismissive is actually a very good assessment. Let's go with that.

As far as drawing hostile fire on cherry-picked content ... it comes with the territory, no complaints, and I'm actually fine with that. Makes a more lively forum too. I'm a boomer, not a snowflake - taking after my "human lightning rod" *idol* Walshy

Not as willing to give him a pass on McCloskey, and willing to see how things turn out with the Souza decision ... but on the latter, I've not seen any real evidence yet of Souza's imprint on the program (i.e. recruiting) so I'm losing a little patience. I'm also assuming the Souza hiring was part and parcel with getting Coach Umile off the "lifetime contract" - a contract that wasn't BS35+4's doing - so I'm giving him a little slack on that one.

It was an unrestricted gift, so we differ on whether it was the right call or not (I've been fine with it). Otherwise, the disingenuous cover story about the donor's purported late-in-life conversion did kind of give the game away as to the coarse optics of the decision. My guess is it wasn't just BS35+4's call, for that reason alone. He may have an inflated opinion of his gravitas, but I seriously doubt he's got the ... *erm* intestinal fortitude to have made that call on his own.

I've heard that over the years from many who have worked with the current AD. So you are hardly alone.

I think the proper word is capiche, Greg.

On the D2 issue, I think we will just have to agree to disagree there. I'm with my apparent "sock puppet" EJ on this one. (( EJ - apologies, no one should have to go through cyber-life as "little Chuckie". Sic 'em Cujo!! ))

There have been no shots at Ms. BS35+4 this year. But about last year ... theoretically, let's say I walked into someone else's program, which had been steadily building over my predecessor's decade on the job, and took the team one (1) game further than said predecessor, yet I never (not once) said something publicly appreciative of my predecessor's work (BTW - this real-life "predecessor" wasn't me, nor was it anyone I directly know) to set the table for my success ... then I'd consider myself a ungrateful ______ . But that's just me, and others may see things differently. Just sayin' ...

Very cool on the new recruit...but that's the other board, still, seems like a "good get" (love it when lots of people in the know say that!!) Anyway seeing how we're having a hockey season here hope the 'Whitt is hopping tomorrow night; there's been loads of social media advertising for it, heard we are 500 away from a sell out, at any rate a good crowd hopefully on hand...

Anybody think their SOS matters much? This was brought up on the Maine board. Hadn't really given it much of a thought I do know who they've played; not exactly "cupcakes". I think it's going to be a great series. Well back to watching Brett Pesce's team who's leading the B's right now.

HEA alums giving the B's more than they can handle tonight.

Bret Pesce's name was mentioned constantly tonight. Certainly not as fancy as Hanifan but, from what I saw, he gave a very credible workmanlike performance, especially for someone who just turned 22.

Agreed on Pesce. Meanwhile, TvR missed playing again last night for his 20th straight game with arm injury. He may have a tough time matching his 14 points from last season, and rumors a couple of weeks ago had him on the trade block for a depth forward.

TvR has been on the trading block since the end of last season. As a Hawks fan it was great to see him, and he made a big impact in the 15' cup run, but this year has been terrible. He is not tough enough in the corners, which I think hurts his stock.

                            From the top:
The fact that McCloskey admitted to facts in the case weakens your argument Chuck. I liked Brian when he was assistant to Umile. He was always open with his time with me and told me things that I could not write about. I did write one article about his typical day when he was out on the road and my takeaway was that he worked incredibly hard for little recognition outside the hockey offices. I doubt if many fans appreciated his work. That is until we saw the work of his successor. All that being said, he apparently allowed this particular woman get under his skin. Perhaps it is true that the only reason she remained on the roster was because of Title IX considerations. But the bottom line is that, in this day and age, you cannot lay a menacing hand on a player. It led to Mark Morris' dismissal at Clarkson and led to Brian's.

The fact that the gift was unrestricted does not reduce UNH and Marty's culpability in the manner. The gentleman in question was a research librarian, a scholar of sorts if you will. From all I read, it is clear that books, research, learning, the essence of what a university is supposed to be, was at the core of his being. His supposed passion for football was cited only by the University, not by his attorney, the co-worker who befriended him, or his relatives. A bunch of rationality miss mash that should have been beneath the administration, from Huddleston on down. My wife (also a UNH grad) and I have given donations in increasingly larger amounts every year since I graduated. This year I have decided not to give. My attitude is that, if the UNH has the kind of money that they can throw it around cavalierly, then they clearly don't need mine.

You are correct, capiche is the correct spelling. I picked up the "b" instead of the "p" from the Italian side of the my family, accentuated with a Boston accent.

Re: D2, Chuck this is not a philosophical discussion. UNH may have been D2 back in the Chief Boston days, but they have clearly been 1AA, and now FCS, since the Bill Burnham days of the mid-70's.

As for Mrs. Scarano. Get over it. No one should get into ****ing contests about the relative merits of youth coaches. Sorry.
