Oh no, keep it coming. As I've learned from this thread, part of the deal with being on top is that everyone else is gunning for you. Something we Dogs should enjoy while it lasts. They're the defending champs until they're not. Come and take it. It will be really interesting to see what their own expectations are for this coming season, how they deal with a new reality, how they respond. Different set of challenges this year.

Who cares if they lost to Bentley in October - who cares how they got there - all that matters is they got a trophy in the end. So the process last year of getting to a title was messy and convoluted - it's Northeastern hockey, would it be any other way?

No worries about losing to North Dakota, they were a quality opponent. Nothing here but pride and admiration for last year's team.

It sounds like the Terrier fans are hesitant to heap too many expectations on their highly touted incoming squad but if it's true that many of these guys won't stay long, they kinda have to expect a lot early. The window will be short (unless they can pull in recruits like that every year) and the clock is ticking. But that success would kinda lead to its own demise, the better these guys do the more likely the teams that drafted them will come calling early. A nice problem to have!

UNH - it would be interesting to hear what the plan is to get back to the level they're accustomed to. Doing the same things as they've always done obviously isn't working. Is that something the current coaches are capable of or does it require a change?

BC - did the greater turnover in players (more it seems than most of the other teams around them) finally catch up to them? Very talented recruits every year file in but do they need more of a veteran presence? How will that be different this year?

Lowell and PC - they've really benefitted, as all good teams do, in the past couple years from excellent goaltending. Boyle is gone, Ellis is gone, do they have qualified replacements ready to go? As we saw at NU last season, Witt graduated, and the transfer period to the next starter was pretty rocky.

They were all over QPac...who tied with a (BS called) PP goal (one of 4 called on NU including a brief 5 on 3) AND they were given a gift PP in OT that they could not convert...NU earned that victory but were hosed into a tie...

So if i have this right you first claim the game ended at midnight and i point out it ended at 930, a 2.5 hour difference...and you correct me by saying it ended at 931?

                  Good luck NU fans!

Hayden Hawkey is expected to put up similar numbers to Gillies and Ellis. Lowell has two incoming goalies who were drafted. In addition, both squads have truly excellent defensive corps (probably the best two in the league, IMO) that often make things easier for their goaltenders.

As a complete and total neutral - I'm a Brown fan, so I don't even have a vested interest in HEA other than as an observer - I'd advise NU fans to temper expectations a bit. They should certainly be a top-half team in HEA, but I wouldn't expect another run of 20 consecutive games without losing or whatever it was. NoDak exposed them in the tournament, and while NU obviously won't be playing teams of that caliber every game, I'm sure other teams will find ways to exploit their weaknesses (which are admittedly few, on paper!).

An irrelevant one. But still a fact.

Shot attempts were 55-54 in favor of Q in all situations and 42-38 at even strength. Shots on goal were 27-23, NU. Maybe we have different definitions of "all over," but there is no measurable way to conclude that NU was in any way a significantly better team in that game. Don't get me wrong: It's very impressive that they were evenly-matched with one of the elite teams in the country, but they were hardly in control of the game.

Lets not put Witt in the same discussion as Boyle, Ellis, Gillies, and Hellebuyck ok?

Its ok, a few of the players decided to drink with him at midnight. I have to believe drinking with Gr8Sk8M8 would probably drive me to the same levels of exhaustion as playing 3 additional periods of hockey.

Shot on goal/attempts are a measure of what other than shots on goal/attempts?
