  • Re: pairwise -- post jan 8th

Quinnipiac will be #1 in Worcester. If BC wins the Hockey East tournament they are #1 in Albany and Providence is the #2. If they lose tonight (this morning) or ...tonight... then Providence is #1 in Albany and BC is #2.
#1 in St. Paul comes down to tomorrow's games: If North Dakota wins the 3rd place game then St Cloud must win the title to get the #1 seed. If both teams lose, North Dakota stays west and St Cloud flies to Cincinnati.
It would be an interesting fate if Minnesota wins the B1G title and hosts North Dakota...
Denver could go anywhere since a flight is a flight. Most likely #2 in Cincinnati. However, if the committee could finagle Michigan vs Notre Dame in Cincinnati I expect them to.
Boston University and Lowell are tied at the hip. One will end up in St Paul while the other hops on a bus to Worcester.
Yale (assuming they get in) or Harvard will be the 3 seed in Worcester to play either BC or PC.

The brackets will look something like this:
    St Paul: SCSU/UND vs Minnesota/AHA/WCHA, BU/UML vs Yale/Harvard
Cincinnati: UND/SCSU vs AHA Champ/WCHA Champ, Denver/Michigan vs Notre Dame
    Worcester: QUINNIPIAC vs WCHA/UMD/Northeastern, Lowell/Michigan vs Harvard/Yale/Michigan
    Albany: PC/BC vs WCHA, BC/PC vs UMD/Yale/Harvard

The only thing we know for sure is Quinnipiac is the #1 in Worcester.

And people thought it would be decided by Friday...

It's certainly a lot more decided than I thought it would be tonight. With BC/NU still playing (which matters!) we're already down to three teams fighting for at-large spots and Minnesota deciding whether all three get in, or just two. If just two, there's a little bit of juggling to determine which two, but this is by far the easies at this point since I've been watching. If BC had an unlikely comeback tonight, things would really solidify.

Of course, that's just who's in. ticap's quite right that seeding is nowhere near decided, and likely won't be until the very end.

Why are you so certain QU goes to Worcester and not Albany?

Hamden is closer to Worcester than Albany.

But they'd get better attendance in Worcester with PC most likely, and QU would travel equally to Albany and Worcester, where PC is quite far from Albany and could leave that site with poor attendance. Albany is already ECAC territory anyways.

They aren't the host. The committee would have to create precedent to send Quinnipiac - possibly the overall #1 seed - to a regional that isn't the nearest.

Yeah, because Providence was the 4 seed. Also, the difference between the two locations was less than 5 miles.

It's a difference of 50 miles for QU, where for PC it's a difference of 125+. I suppose they could do it, but I would hesitate to call QU in Worcester a lock.

Brown hosted in Providence last year, not PC. The committee placed PC there willingly.

Looks like Notre Dame is the only team that cannot control it's own destiny to get into the tournament now. 1-11 are in. Notre Dame at 12 can only be bumped out by 5 AQ. Minn-Duluth, Northeastern, Minnesota, WCHA and AHC. WCHA or AHC is either 15th or 16th. Northeastern first or Minn-D 2nd could be out with a loss. Minnesota needs to win to get in. If Michigan wins then not only ND but also Minn-D and Northeastern are in even if they lose.

Dahl has Yale in Notre Dame's position. RPI has them .0003 ahead of Notre Dame. I assume other results must flip their positions then.

I wish you were correct, but Minnesota+Minnesota-Duluth+Northeastern+Quinnipiac knocks out Yale.
