    Re: 2016 World Junior Championship

Solid Goaltending...they won a lot of the loose puck battles and they had some puck luck...and they count and THAT's Hockey. Even being the so called 1st win...BIG win over Canada.

eberle scored with like 5 secs left in 2009 against the russians i believe. in 2010 he scored twice in the last 5 minutes against the usa to send it to overtime. thankfully john carlson scored the winner in OT. ive only been following world juniors for the past 7-8 years but eberle is the best WJC player ive seen.

True...BUT...the US team got better as the game went on. They were able to sustain pressure and control in the offensive end. In the first period and a half they looked like they had no plan on offense, but they pulled it together and capitalized on some chances. Always good to be opportunistic! Let's hope they don't have any letdowns now that the "big" one is behind them.

Canada got 15 shots inside the dots to the top of the faceoff circle and scored 2. We got 6 shots in the same area (home plate in shape BTW) and scored 2 with 2 more coming from long range. (Thanks to TSN for the stats/video).

It was a Game Misconduct, not a Game DQ. Not sure if the same rule applies ala NCAA where you only sit for a game DQ.

When I saw at the WJC in Buffalo what we would know as "Game DQ", it was announced as a "Match Penalty". This was when they started strictly punishing CTH at pretty much every level.

look at the rest of the team draft level and you wonder why Donatos there
definitely didn't think this level of coaches would cave with so much prestige on the line

From other discussions I have read about the DeBrincat incident. The IIHF has the power to review and suspend in this instance. Most others in that discussion did not think this incident would rise to the suspension level. also players from Denmark and Switzerland have been suspended for actions in yesterdays play. The Swiss player was assessed a three gamer for a hit to the head. The Dane a one gamer for a hit from behind.

just watching the end of the Belarus / Slovakia game. Belarus down 3-2 with a minute left and on a 6 on 4 power play. Slovakia steals the puck and while on the way to a clear game icing empty netter, the Belarus goalie bolts of the bench to try and prevent the game clinching shot and also creating a 7 on 4 situation. Not only did the goalie not prevent the goal, he managed to injure himself in the process. Crazy.

Slovakia gets an ENG via the obvious and imminent rule from the Belarus goalie creating too many men to try to stop the goal, and ends up getting injured in the process. Looks like Belarus will be in the Bo3 matches next year, unless the Czechs trip up (which they probably won't).

In a couple hours is the game effectively determining who goes to the relegation matches: Switzerland v. Denmark. Unless our wildest dreams of Canada getting to the relegation matches comes true.
