I suspect GRANTFAN is a WOJCIK head - he only listens to the radio broadcast.....

I'll be the first to admit that he has a point with Cullity. Not sure if y' all remember his PAPA- back in the day, he would sit in front of the net and poke 'em in. Real tough guy. I don't recall his stats. I suspect GRAwojcikNTFAN has the bible and can whip them off.

That was back when George Commo was the voice - I wonder if GRANTwojcikFAN was listening back then.

      Sifers.

He did it on the ice and off the ice better than anyone.

Many people have worn a "C" but very few can be called "The Captain"

He would block a shot and hobble off the ice and return 30 seconds later to do it again.

Same could be said for Dean Strong...block a shot then be right back out there.

Sifers was 3 year captain and his leadership got the team through the ECAC to Hockey East. Strong got the team to the Frozen Four.

Since the question was best "recent" captain, these 2 probably "had" the locker room in a way that Coach Sneddon is still looking for from the current group.

Isn't Sifers the career leader in penalty minutes. He wasn't stupid, just tough.

The players know who there leaders are, coaches can't make them, but they can hurt a team by forcing something that isn't there.

I would assume you didnt watch the Cats when Sifer's played or you would not have made such a comment. Sifer's prob played 30min a game and he hardly ever took a bad penalty.

The old line from Sneddon was when he would ask Sifers to get a few players together for something like going to deliver teddy bears from the teddy bear toss etc he would show up with half the team. Guys that take dumb penalties dont get that kid of respect from their reammates.

Although I agree Strong was a good leader and captain, IMO I don't think there is a comparison. Sifers led by example, and by calling out his teamates. He played with a tremendous amount of emotion but used it a good way. He got his team up and going when they needed to. Sometimes a verbal lashing in the locker room, sometimes blocking a shot, ( and unlike Strong) sometimes by laying someone out at center ice. No one since has had that level of emotion and agression. One thing UVM has sorely lacked was someone who could line a guy up, lay a clean hit on them and make them spend the rest of the game keeping track of when and where he was on the ice.

Far away I think best captain goes to Sifers.

I'm sure grantfan thinks its Irwin though.

If not grantfan then Barry Melrose. That guy could not get enough of Irwin in the TV broadcast on Sunday...

Melrose is horrible, the guy just has no clue. I like Irwin as a player he is above average and is an attribute to the team, but seriously I wonder sometimes if he isn't related to GrantFan....

The think that irked me with Melrose which has been brought up already was that UVM needed to keep the game choppy because they could keep it close with a much more talented UMA team. We all know UVM doesn't have a single flashy line like W-M-S but depth wise they are as deep as anyone. I don't know how that fool can make a comment like that......repeatedly. What a maroon. I would have like to asked him, if you took away the top two scorer's from each team at the begining of the playoffs, which team would you rather be coaching??

In any event, my rant on Melrose.

Looking forward to the upcoming weekend agaisnt ME.

                    1 sliced carrot
1 tbs.. dried tarragon, may want to half this as tarragon is strong salt and pepper adjust to your own taste

Place bear meat in roaster, roast or steaks, in marinade
and cover and refrigerate overnight turning often prior bedtime.
Remove from marinade approx., 2 hrs. prior cooking to allow meat to come to room temp. Strain marinade and reserve liquid for gravy.
Pre-Heat oven to 350 Deg. turning the roast and or steaks halfway through cooking time, about 3 periods for 4 point roast.

                      OUCH!

I'm making the trek to Burlington this weekend for my first visit to the Gutt (for Hockey anyway). Haven't hung around Groovy You-Vee since my wife graduated back in the Dark Ages ('82). Other than Al's French Fries and Boves can anyone recommend good places to hang-out before, after, and between games?

I'll be in Section 15 if anyone wants to deliver face-to-face "abuse"!

Because Al's doesn't serve Adult Beverages!

LOL..ok fair enough. I would assume Church St. and Main St. are the usual places to look.Town seems to have moved down the hill a bit too, closer to the water..but like you it has been a few years since I have rolled into town.

Vermont Pub and Brewery has the best beer and good pub food. If you are looking for something a bit more upclass Sweetwater's is pretty good.

If you want a micro brew, **** good flatbread pizza, and to mingle with the hippies try Flatbread a few doors south of the Vermont Pub & Brewery. I'm no hippie but I love the beer and pizza.

If you want upscale and affordable americana The Daily Planet is very good - on the street east of and parallel to Church st.

For more expense upscale (and Italian) try Tratorria (first block south of main on St. Paul) or La Mante (on college towards lake from VT pub & brewery).

For upscale Chinese The Single Pebble (Chinese on bank street - north side of the block that VT Pub & brewery is on).

Leunigs (frenchish) is also good and RiRa is not bad irish for a bar - both are on Church st.

I would personally not recommend Sweetwaters or the VT pub & brewery for food. I keep giving them each a try now and then and am always disappointed (except with the beer).

I hope you have a great time except at the games

dress warm, our early spring is going to be temporarily suspended for the weekend
