Re: Yale Bulldogs 2015-2016 season. Lets get offensive!

Repensky actually played and played very well. nice breakout game by Hayden and Snively, they are gelling and will be a force to be reckoned with. I thought that BU took it to Yale in the first and may have tired at the end. The fiver was deserved IMO as the player was defenseless and not anywhere near the puck when the hit took place. Something tells me that BU's Greenway will be a pro next year, absolute beast of a player at 6'5" 230#. Replay here. http://espn.go.com/watchespn/player/_/id/2702745/

Nice win for Yale. Looking forward to seeing the team live and in person next month out here against ASU and UConn or Michigan Tech. Hopefully the new year will bring some consistency.

                    Yale-BU 1978

Yale's last win over BU at Ingalls before this year was 1978

                    http://rinkrap1.blogspot.com/2015/12...n-miracle.html

.......when WAS the last time Yale beat BU at the Whale? A lengthy shuffle through the record book is required, but there it is: February 18, 1978. 38 seasons ago, the dark ages of no facemasks and steel-post skates. An Internet search reveals Peter Gammons calling Yale’s 7-5 win “college hockey’s upset of the decade” in Sports Illustrated. This demanded a closer look. What we found was a moment in time carved permanently into the memories of participants from both Red and Blue: Rhodes Scholars, 1980 Miracle Men and a coaching icon. It was also the finest hour for late coach Tim Taylor of Yale, colored by the backstory of a hockey friendship for the ages.

That story deserves it's own thread here, because it was written so well. Only thing lacking is commentary by Allain for obvious reasons, he sat out the game.

I am fairly sure that the NCAA required facemasks at the time.

I don't get many chances to correct someone as well informed as Ralph, but I was at Yale then (and what a game it was!) and I remember that only a few wore full facemasks. So I went to check my recollection -- "The NCAA started recommending the use of face shields at the start of the 1978-79 season. Eastern teams started wearing the face shields in 1979, and the NCAA required their use by all teams at the start of the 1980-81 season."

Good solid game by Ryan Hitchcock against Canada today. He most likely saved a Canadian goal by physically taking out a Canadian forward who had a VERY open look at the net late in the game. Two shots on goal and zero in the +/- column.
