But let's be real...There are 40 some other teams and only two alaskan teams...the day one of us wins something big will be the day I transfer to UAA

Nice win UAA. Too bad Ege was rooked out of his goal. It sure looked good on the replays. He was tripped and swiped at the puck with his stick, as he was sliding across the crease head first. If the puck hit his hand on the way in, it was not directed or hit at by Wyatt. The freshmen are starting to look pretty good.

Glad to see our guys show some fight after being down 0-2 both nights. This was needed after the Kendall debacle.
Also glad both Alaska schools won both games...helps out the WCHA in the long run.

Yes, but deciding a tourney winner by goal differential isn't my cup of tea. I would prefer winners playing winners and losers playing losers. There were some WCHA teams playing each other this weekend and they did not count as official league games (according to Bruce).

The tourney is more attractive to teams from the lower 48 the way it is currently set up because both games are exempt from the 34-game limit. Had RPI played AIC in Alaska the game would have counted to the limit.
It’s nice to claim tourney championships for either the Kendall or the Brice, but it means very little in the scheme of things. The major advantage is that both UAA and UAF can get four quality games under our belts before we head into conference play. Any structure that makes that happen is the way to go, and for obvious reasons the current structure guaranteeing two exempt games for traveling teams is the only way that will happen. Before the Brice, we often headed into conference play barely tested, and we often dug ourselves a hole right out of the gate.
Plus, imagine the chagrin if it would have been ASU vs SCSU for the Kendall Championship, or AIC vs RPI for the Brice.
But I have heard rumors that one or both of the tourneys could disappear. Not sure how solid the rumors are, but I did not hear any announcements this year about next year’s tourneys. At one point Wisconsin and North Dakota were on tap for next year’s Brice, but we know how fluid those commitments seem to be.

UAA vs. UAF (home and home?) to start every year sounds nice, and then a traveling yearly tournament (the Kendall Brice Goal Classic) between ANC and FBX could work. That way we combine forces to shore up any financial woes.
Just to be clear. My disinterest in this team became of the Uni's disinterest. Without the success of the hockey team, the other teams would not be where they are. Way to pay back the hockey team. **** UAA.
The wheels aren't off yet but the lug nuts are getting loose.

I realize I'm really late, I'm just catching up on threads.

In addition to what others have said, it's also better for the WCHA to have both of us play non conference games in these tourneys for PWR purposes.

I hope they both stay for obvious reasons but wouldn't be surprised if they go.
The biggest problem if they go, IMO, is it means we are going back on the road for any decent non-conference games. The only bonus I could see is if we got some guarantee from a bigger school for playing in their barn.
And there are easier fixes to getting more revenue in the program...and it starts with getting people to the Carlson and drinking beer and wine to offset the rental cost.
