I recently read a quote from the head coach saying that they expect him to be a big part of the team in Nashville this year, but that he needs a little time to get used to playing on the NHL sized ice again. And that they thought it would be better for him to get into games at the AHL level until he gets comfortable than it would have been to bench him and have him watching the NHL games from the stands.

Probably would have been easier to just say he didn't meet expectations at camp, and leave it at that. This way, they make it sound like he's not up to the extra physical contact. You can tell a player that privately, without needing to broadcast it to the rest of the NHL/AHL.
