Great weekend for college hockey in the Capital District - BU and BC here. Can't believe the Ivies won't allow games for another 2+weeks.

College Hockey News has the following about Brown -

Brown Improvement? http://www.collegehockeynews.com/new...watch_list.php - Fair assessment.

College hockey players are students first, and the season is too long as it is. Freshmen, for example, arrive in early September, and need time to adjust to the fast academic pace of a school like Brown before they start playing games. No other sport has a season that's six and a half months long.

Official practices began yesterday in the Ivy League, but this year coaches had been allowed to conduct practices for two hours a week since the start of the school year. The rest of the time there were captains' practices.

The late start hasn't prevented the Ivy League from competing at the national level, and even winning a national championship three years ago.

I think this is a fair assessment of Brown's situation. Brown should have two lines that can score regularly. It's likely that we'll see freshman Tommy Marchin with Mark Naclerio and Nick Lappin, while Sam Lefferty, Max Willman and Tyler Bird will probably stay together, at least at the start of the season. This trio showed great improvement towards the end of the season. Other forwards such as Tim Lappin, Charlie Corcoran, and freshman Alex Brink should also contribute to the score sheet. With his shot and strength Joe Prescott remains a bit of a mystery. Brown would greatly benefit from a strong season from this nice young man.

Expect Brown to play more of an up tempo game, with the defensemen becoming more involved in the play and narrowing the gap between defense and offense that plagued Brown last year. This is actually the style favored by Brendan Whittet though it's been difficult to achieve the last couple of seasons.

Fully understood. Just that it is frustrating having to wait as a fan while other teams are playing.

Went to the BC - RPI game this afternoon. Miles Wood, who decommitted from Brown a few years back, is a stud. I sat next to a BC fan who seemed to know the Wood family and said Miles really struggled with the decision. He also mentioned that an incoming freshman for Brown, Tim Doherty, whose brother is BC's captain, was a good recruit for Brown and has the potential to be a star for Brown.

"Hockey Jamboree" next Saturday (October 24) at Meehan with Princeton and Yale. Teams will play two periods against one another. Brown vs. Princeton, followed by Princeton vs. Yale, and concluding with Brown vs. Yale.

What struggle? Miles Wood didn't have the grades to get into Brown.

Only 8 days left to get your picks in or change your picks. Remember, Oct 30, 7PM RPI Union Game is the cutoff for picks.

Re: Brown Hockey 2015-16: (s)Lappin' around the competition

I stopped by the second scrimmage today against Yale, and Max Wilman blew me away. By far the most impressive player for either team. I'm VERY excited to see him progress this year. Bird looked very good, as well, and I was also impressed by Corcoran's play.

It appeared as though they split the team in two groups, and had one half play against Princeton. Lappin didn't play at all, Naclerio and Lafferty were used sparely and Ernst played against Yale. I heard we beat Princeton, 5-0, so that's good. The team that played against Yale was rather uninspiring, and lost 3-0. Very sloppy play by both teams, but that's obviously to be expected.

Yale looks like they'll be a significantly better offensive team this year than they were last. I'd expect them to be one of the teams to beat in the ECAC.
