That's not a bad group. Sadly, UAH isn't on it, but BSU isn't, either, so at least I don't have to hear Millsy and gmann try to give me a bunch of bull.

WCHA Statement On The Adoption Of NCAA Cost Of Attendance Legislation

            http://www.wcha.com/men/pres1415/201507/july6wcm.php

EDINA, Minn. – July 7, 2015 – Following the group's annual meetings, the separate Board of Directors for both the men's and women's Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) stand in support of the NCAA Autonomy Proposal No. 2014-13-1 and the redefinition of full grant-in-aid to include up to the full cost of attendance for students.

As such, the WCHA will support any of its institutions to provide up to the full cost of attendance and it will be of their own individual discretion on the amount it will provide to its own student-athletes moving forward.

In a joint statement, Ferris State University President David Eisler (outgoing Chair, Men's League), St. Cloud State University Faculty Representative Bill Hudson (outgoing Chair, Women's League), men's Commissioner Bill Robertson and women's Commissioner Aaron Kemp said:

"The WCHA's priority will always be to provide the very best collegiate experience for our student-athletes, both on and off the ice. We are dedicated to supporting our student-athletes in all areas, with the ultimate goal of preparing them for graduation and fostering success during and after their time on campus. We support NCAA legislation that redefines an athletics grant-in-aid to include up to the full cost of attendance, while allowing individual discretion to each institution on the amount they choose to provide within those parameters."

Matt Prapavessis, even though he graduated, is in the Buffalo Sabres camp.

But yeah, no current players from BSU in any of the camps.

Some notes going through the article:
                    - Minor revisionist history going on in the thread. UNO left for the WCHA one year prior to the announcement of the NCHC, and before the CCHA was to be dissolved. Not denying that there wasn't writing on the wall for the future...

                    - The whole point of his article comes down to Bowling Green not making the tourney because RIT got the auto-bid? It's pretty simple math.

I doubt the assertion made about the success of the 14-15 WCHA. There were a lot of upperclassmen leading those teams, players who came to their member schools before the changes were fully realized. There are no natural experiments in college hockey, but when you're looking at advanced comparisons, the WCHA held its own. Where you maybe can argue that the WCHA fell short was because the league schedule wasn't the toughest out there in terms of regularly facing top teams (and hadn't built their teams to overcome). But okay. Postseason play is a bit of a crapshoot.

not buying his "Competitiveness" stuff, which is speculation.

"This past season, Minnesota State, Michigan Tech and Bowling Green finished as the top three in the conference and were all ranked among the top 10 in the nation at one point in the season, with MSU and MTU both being No. 1 at one point or another. That would be an unlikely scenario for either of those teams if the old WCHA were still intact."
MSU, MTU, and BGSU are programs on the rise in any conference, and for all three the rises started before realignment (i.e., when they brought in really good coaching staffs). last season they reached the top 10 due to pairwise performance and doing well against strong teams across all conferences. realignment isn't the reason that these teams are winning--they're winning because they're solid programs.

Would they be as high as they reached in the old WCHA? All three of them? Just based on the pairwise differences that conference realignment created I doubt that. They would still be good teams but I doubt ALL three would have gone as high as they did in the PWR and the Pohls.

I don't know. I heard Johnny thinks mighty highly of all three teams.
