Harvard's Power Play was #2 in the country before the game. If there was a game to try and avoid penalties it was this one. That being said some of the penalty calls against us were "b*llsh*t" and many of the faithful communicated that very loudly to the refs. Huge turnout for Union by the way. The entire visitor side was packed. Madsen was great in goal for the Crimson. Harvard is getting their defense into the action, and their forwards are screening shots and redirecting shots. Much improved since the last time I saw them. Our forechecking and backchecking were excellent. Neither team was able to mount much in the way of odd man rushes. Harvard scored goals right at the close of the first and second period. They were cheating up their defensemen.

When they took away Wilkins first goal, that let some of the steam out of the engine.

I was very proud of the way they played. Could have easily been 2-2. We gave it 60 minutes. Who knows, maybe we will see them again.

Is Saturday night Senior Night? Last home game for the seniors. This is where the parents are introduced? Are the introductions before or after the Quinnipiac contest? A very real possibility is that we match up in the tournament against Cornell again and if our season does not end there, back to Quinnipiac. Not sure I mind being on the road for the first round. We seem to play better on the road anyway.

Don't know what they did last year, but the previous year they introduced seniors/parents after the game. Saturday should be the night.

"Senior Night" ... every senior that can stand is in the lineup, along with a full compliment of Jrs. Clearly not our best lineup BUT some things are more important than winning. Unless a miracle occurs, will be the last time the seniors don a Dutchmen Uniform at Achilles. Good luck seniors and thank you !!!!

Best hockey we've played this season last night ? If not, then top 2
Seeing so much will to do something on the ice was nice, and the crowd was there too, very nice to hear!!!
Great game by everyone on the ice, I can't think of a player who wasn't out there trying.

                      Let's go Union!

Absolutely! The crowd shows up when the team gives it 110% and it makes for a tremendous experience. It's been a different team for the last six games and they're going to be fun to watch if they can continue match this relentless spirit. We will not go quietly!

On another note - it looked to me like Rand Pecknold was showing very poor sportsmanship. Screaming at his players when they tried to change lines and storming off the ice yelling at the refs at the end. Can only imagine that his style has something to do with how his team always seems to fall apart in the playoffs.

                        Go U!

Union received a commitment from Vasili Kolias, a defenseman for the Youngstown Phantoms (USHL). He was once a BU commit.

Chicago Mission U18 '97-born defenseman Vasili Kolias has committed to Boston University, according to the Mission's website.

Last year, Kolias played on the top defensive pairing for Chicago Mission's national championship-winning U16 team, alongside Notre Dame recruit Tory Dello. Kolias was invited to the NTDP's Final 40 tryout camp last spring and was selected with the 6th pick of the second round in the USHL's Future's Draft by the Indiana Ice.

Kolias is a smaller defenseman, usually listed somewhere in the neighborhood of 5'9" 150 lbs., but has immense talent. Light on his feet, Kolias possesses an extremely quick first step. Despite being a smaller player, Kolias isn't afraid to play with an edge and has the hockey sense to read plays and put himself in position to make big hits. He's consistently shown a lot of tools to be a standout player at the college level and is another very nice recruiting pick-up for Boston University.

                            BU RECRUITS

                            Robert Mastrosimone (2019)
                            Case McCarthy (2019)

                            Looking ahead

BU received its second verbal for 2015 this week. Speedy Chicago Mission defenseman Vasili Kolias, who was invited to last Spring’s NTDP tryout camp, was #8 on OverTheBoard’s list of top uncommitted players.

Kolias was USHR’s top-rated defenseman at last summer’s USA Hockey Select 16 tournament and earned a spot on the U.S. Select U17 team that played in the Five Nation’s Tournament in Switzerland this past August.

USHR: Vas Kolias (Chicago Mission U16/Black) 5-9/150 — Kolias, a top defenseman who we have been raving about for the last couple of years, is still somehow uncommitted. The positive on him is that he brings an offensive dimension that is incredibly hard to find. An effortless skater, he plays a very loose, stress-free game and is able to bring the puck up ice beautifully and create offense. The negative on him is that he plays a loose, care-free game which isn’t exactly what you want on the ice when protecting a one or two goal lead. Indiana Ice (USHL) draft pick. Made the Five Nations team.

A left-shot, Kolias joins NTDP blueliner Charlie McAvoy, and forwards Bobo Carpenter and Maxim Letunov in BU’s 2015 recruit class.

Saturday was a terrific game and am very proud of the way the team played - one their best games all season. Kudos to the coaches for playing all the seniors, took a little guts. Would have been nice to steal a W but am very happy with the result. Not sure the Q exactly brought their A game, they were probably not expecting much after the game in Hamden, but the Bobcats are a very quality team and can pull out W's even without their best. Gives some optimism going into the post-season, though I think a lot depends on how Sak plays. In general, when he is good to very good U wins or ties, when he lets in a soft one or two they don't.

On the recruit front, not sure what to make of all these 5-9 to 5-10 defensemen they are bringing in.. I think that's a little risky, but guess time will tell.

It's the Gostisbehere Effect. Puck-moving defensemen want to play our system.
