Re: The Official "My team got screwed!!" thread of the 2015 Ice Hockey Tournament
Hard for me to disagree with his 2nd point. When it comes to these 1 bid leagues, the reg season should be more important than short tourney. But everyone loves tournaments...

It's the nature of tournaments. If it meant nothing, then no one would go. Postseason tourneys were once just exhibition things, and had little real weight.

Guess that leads to...does atlantic hockey even need a tourney? Does each league get to specify who their auto bid team is whether reg season champ or tourney?

I believe they do need to specify. Ivy bouncyball gets to select Reg. season winner. hell, look at soccer across the pond. Their league goes with Regular Season winner, and top teams play in a yearlong tournament outside of the league. But the nature of sports and their organizational structure is widely different than here.
Perhaps leagues that have unprofitable or otherwise empty finals (AHC, maybe ECAC) would want to go in that direction? But it does risk two things: a) the possibility of a surprise team making the NCAA that wouldn't ordinarily do so, and b) some more (non-conference, I believe the NCAA dictates) games against better opponents.

The B1G got screwed.
EVERYBODY knows they are superior to everybody else in every conceivable way.
Each year's field OUGHT to include:
1. Each of the B1G (6)
2. Winners of the 'other' conference auto-bids (5)
3. At-large bids (5)
I think we also need to secure butts in seats, so how about, top 4 B1G teams with 1&2 seeds in a yearly St. Paul regional and 1&2 seeds in a yearly Detroit (or Toledo) regional. Michigan & Michigan State in Detroit, Minnesota and Wisconsin in St. Paul, if Penn State or OSU finishes in top 4, put them in the available spot. Now we've got greater tv audience, maybe we could convince ESPN to give those games to BTN (we all know ESPN would rather show lacrosse), we've solved attendance issues in the West and most importantly my team gets in.

Re: The Official "My team got screwed!!" thread of the 2015 Ice Hockey Tournament
Oh, an also, my team got screwed.
Seriously, why didn't we get in on name recognition alone? Also, we have the coolest helmets, and I know regional attendees would like to hear our fight song at every stoppage of play.
We won 20+ games and we're Michigan. I blame the rest of the B1G for playing so lousy out of conference.
Oh, and the refs screwed us. Just think if we had gotten one of the 4 reviewed goals in BU to go our way. Or the goal we scored at Penn State that didn't count. Had we gotten that extra point during the B1G season, we wouldn't have had to play the Thursday game for the B1G tourney. With more rested legs we could have beaten Minnesota. Especially if it weren't for those **** refs again calling all those penalties we commited.
The system is rigged. Bring back smoke filled rooms.

I laughed so hard when you said "we also need to secure butts in seats" and then your solution was B1G teams after this weekend that my laptop fell and the screen has a crack. Where do I send the bill?

Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

Having watched Robert Morris play 2 games and 2 periods, I don't think they have a leg to stand on. I was not impressed, particularly with their goaltending. Two of those games they lost, and one of those they easy could have lost. They racked up wins early, and settled in when the rest of the league was beating up on each other.
What's not noted is that Mercyhurst was up on Robert Morris 2-0 before they came from behind. Then they gave up an extra attacker goal and one of the softest season ending goals I have ever seen.

BTW, isn't UMass Lowell still technically a D-II college? Or did they move up recently? Gotta love the "glorified D-II conference" comment.
Lowell elevated to D-1 in all sports starting in the fall of 2013.
And the article wasn't front page of the sports section. It was front page of the newspaper - above the fold. Truly awful.
