  • Re: 2015 World Junior Championships

One man's opinion - the USA needs to drop the "Umbrella" power play. It isn't working, and the team doesn't look comfortable with it. I've never bee a fan of it - only one reasonable shooting angle from beyond the dots, and it usually gets blocked. And only two instead of three guys low enough to have a reasonable shot at a rebound.

This team has a lot of talent at D, get two point men with three down low (including Eichel), and crash the net following shots from the point.

      I agree with this completely.

Especially with the PP operating at 7.69%, sure the passes are pretty with the umbrella but passes rarely make it to the back of the net. I don't like the lack of pressure the umbrella PP has put on opponents down low, with talent like Schmaltz, Eichel, and Milano they have to be below the top of the circles with the puck looking for a loose puck or a rebound.

Not from legitimate sites, no, unfortunately. NHL doesn't look like they have it, and TSN is geo-blocked for Canada only.

Lindblom with a pair of quick ones early in the second (one PP), but Suisse going on the PP.

Sweden up 5-1 after picking up a pair on a major. Barring some sort of a miracle in the third, Sweden will get 12 points, and Denmark will clinch a spot in the quarters. Czechs MUST win in regulation to stay alive; they come in 3rd in the 3-way.

Sweden/Switzerland is a lock. Sweden will face either Finland or Germany in the quarters, and Denmark goes to the quarters, probably to face either the US or Canada.

Guaranteed to play one of those two. US World Junior A Challenge team beat this Denmark team... I'd rather face them than Russia, and Switzerland would probably be the most ideal (US win over Canada, Russia win over Czech).

The US can't play Russia until the semifinals as neither can finish below second in their pool.

If Czech beat Russia in regulation they finish second.

                            USA 2-1-0-0 8 (clinched 1st/2nd place)
                            Slovakia 2-0-0-2 5 (clinched 3rd place)

                            Group B

Sweden 4-0-0-0 12 (clinched group winner)
                            Russia 1-1-0-1 5 (clinched qualification)
                            Denmark 0-1-2-1 4 (clinched qualification)
                            Swiss 1-0-1-2 4
                            Czechs 0-1-0-2 2

Note - I've put the Danes 3rd and Swiss 4th because the 1st tiebreaker is H2H; I don't know what happens if the Czechs get two points other than that the Swiss and Danes make it.
